Way too unrealistic for this to make even a small ding in the side of standard television. It is like saying Linux will take over as THE operating system for the masses. Not going to happen now or ever.
Its not a question of being better or more efficient, its too big of a hill to climb. The people producing the content have a vested interest in keeping the status quo. Perhaps when you have fiber to every single house in the country you might see the content providers take advantage of it. A TV is so simple a moron can use it... can we really say that about a computer and the software that would be needed. Not yet and likely not ever.
Sorry, just calling it as a I see it.
I think if you put the burden on the filer instead of the USPO then you will see companies spring up that research it. The only problem with this approach is that you are still putting faith in the people that are trying to screw you in the end... so the USPO still has to do the search. You'd have to create a third party company that is nuetral and certified by the USPO. I'd much rather someone make money doing the research rather than my tax dollars getting spent having the burden of the research being on the government.
Read the article. Yes they are doing this for real, but like the guy in the article said, SETI just hasn't given them a good set of contacts yet and direct mail would be way too much money.
in the article is that the bomb would be assembled outside the country. If they had the right type of people in a sleeper cell here in the US, all they would need to do is get the enriched uranium into the country, far easier than an entire bomb.
I think its far more likely that we'll see suicide type bombing, akin to what is going on in Iraq, in the US proper. I think it would be far more deadly in the long run and far more scary. Look at what two morons from the midwest were able to do to an FBI building in Oklahoma.
Now we are starting to create organic and machine hybrids. Cyborgs are going to be the eventual evolution of this. If you can do it molecularly its only a matter of time before we do it on a life size robot.
It was easier to see BECAUSE it goes around a brown dwarf. A brown dwarf has the mass to be a sun but not enough "feul" to create the fission reaction to light up. So essentially it is easier to see because there is not as much light around it. That and the fact that it is such a large planet.
While 5 time Jupiter's size seems large, there are suns that are as big as the entire ORBIT of Jupiter in diameter. So as planets go, yes its big, but not sun-like in size.
My laptop's registry hive file got corrupted about 3 months ago. With the MS boot disk my only option was to re-format and start from scratch. I DL'd Knoppix on the advice of a friend and was able to ftp all of my necessary files to a network location here at work and then I re-formated and off I went. God Bless Knoppix... don't leave home without it.

So, what, I have to push my lawnmower down to the local gas station to fill it up now too?
I don't think so... since the average lawnmower is 5HP or so and your average car is well over 100.

You sure? Wouldn't there be some level of cell degradation over time? Nothing lasts forever not even our own cells.
To get it to a Gig of memory, superdrive, and add wireless you get yourself well over the $1,000 mark. So Amem on that one Theovon.
When the first person playing a game punches someone in the head on the train and then gets their phone shoved where the sun don't shine.
I can already hear the Celine Dion playing in my head.
