I wonder how many times I have said this.. but just about any nordic country has lesser population density than the US and our population is quite spread out. You know, telecom corporations used to be in a similar monopoly position like in the US but our broadbands got a LOT cheaper when they were forced to share their copper.

Not only did we invent and build it -- we paid for it. That doesn't entitle us to something? The British got to define the Prime Meridian based on their global empire. Subsequently this has defined GMT. Wouldn't it make more sense for GMT to be based on New York (the center of the World Financial System and headquarters of the United Nations)? Isn't that whole argument just as silly as insisting that DoC hand over the root servers? Where is the problem here that they want to fix?

If having GMT in one's capital meant total control over information infrastructure it sure as hell would'nt be in London.

CNN is not even reality television, it is more like show wrestling...

Heh, you have not seeing "decaying" until you have been to Russia. Officials are not paid, pensioners are pretty much abandoned, getting electricity during winter might be hard, corruption is rampant and they are going even more authoritian than before.

Try wearing a swastika in Germany or France and see how long it takes for the police to drag you off the streets.

At least our major parties don't cage any dissidents off plain sight. I personally value their freedoms more than some assholes whose idols managed to kill millions of people and devastate this continent. The United States hasn't conquered, occupied, and retained possession of a single piece of territory since the Spanish-American war! We left Europe after WWI, only to return to liberate it again during WWII. Then, having sacrificed the better portion of an entire generation of American young men, we left again without making any territorial claims. We left Germany after helping to rebuild. We left Japan after rebuilding. We left Korea. We left Vietnam. We left Kuwait. We left Somalia and Kosovo. We're going to leave Afghanistan and Iraq, too, when the job is done.

Guess you forgot to take those military bases with you..

And getting forced out by the local guerrillas (Vietnam, Somalia) does'nt count in my opinion.
