Gee, so anything that says anything good about microsoft (which my post wasn't even doing) is flamebait simply cause slashdot is full of people who like flaming microsoft? That's utterly stupid.

My post was not crafted to inflame people. It's a fact, the KB article is not written on windows 2000 advertising pamflets, it's an answer to questions asked to microsoft. Lets say noone asked the question and MS are doing it for pure 'evil', so what? What differences would that make? Noone is going to go searching on the KB for "linux" and come across this article and go, oooooh now I know how to uninstall linux, yes I'll just go and do that now.

    Such a damn crappy article.

Oooh, Redhat has instructions on how to remove Windows.

Why don't you guys search MSKB for articles on linux, (forgetting the frontpage extensions ones) there are other useful articles like how to remove LILO using FDISK /MBR - something often asked on linux chat channels, and there's also a KB article on how to RESTORE lilo after installing Windows.

I'm so pissed off with /. for posting this and for everyone making such a big deal out of it.
KB articles are supplied to answer frequently asked questions by MS customers and developers. This is a KB article not an advertising broshure.

If there's anything MS does very well, it's supporting developers and customers better than everyone else.

[Nitpick] They tell you to delete all partitions; perhaps one already has a dual-boot and ought to keep his Windoze partitions.
When we type fdisk /mbr, we ought to be in DOS, yet the previous step instructed us to but a Linux bootable CD or disk in and wait for the command prompt. Then again, they could just have us do the whole thing with the MS fdisk, but that'd be too logical, I guess

Do you know what the microsoft knowledge base is?

It's full of questions and answers to them that people have asked. Obviously microsoft have had questions regarding this, enough from customers that they think it's handy to have as a KB they can point people to, or for people to search for.

It's providing for customers and developers which MS does extremeley well (better than others like Sun).

Word 2000 uses the same format as Word 97, Word 97 can read Word 95 documents, Word95 documents can read Word97 documenteds (with the filter).

Forcing MS to document undocumented APIs won't do a single thing? Why cause these APIs don't exist.

Sure there are some exported functions lying around *somewhere* in some DLLs, but the very reason these aren't documented is cause they aren't APIs. They are not for application developers AT ALL. They are not part of Win32, and they are not garunteed to be there in the next release of Win32.
If you could prove that MS uses these functions in Office or something, then YES, those functions should be documented as part of the Win32 API. However, there is no proof of that.

I get very angry when people say things like this, cause I think that MS is the best company with regards to developer relations and support. They treat Windows developers VERY well.
If you want documentation on Win32 try msdn.microsoft.com, and/or download the Win32SDK. Try before you speak really.
I frankly haven't seen anything in Office or other MS products that I thought "hey, i can't do that!!!". Sometimes I see something and go, hey I wonder how they do that, but a search of MSDN always comes up with the info I need.
