It would be nice to know what each group of hardware is doing in this setup. What purpose do all the different servers have on the system? Also, there is a lot of storage on this setup, however it's spread all over the place. They have 4x300GB hard drives in each of the 30 Dual Opterons, one 36.4GB hard drive in each of the 40 HP servers, 24 hard drives on the Sun server, more hard drives on the IBMS, and even more on the Nexsan SATABeast.
Any idea what each cluster of servers does?
If your competiton uses your name, then your customers may be confused and purchase the competitors products....and I assume you'd have a problem with that.
How about car tires? Goodyear and Michelin make tires that fit my car, they even look almost identical untill you get really close. Unless Mega Bloks puts the words LEGO or something similar on it I see no problem. There are lots of products that look the same because that's the technology. The original patent owner got their chance to do what they could with it. The patent ran out, LEGO needs to get over it.
I see bittorrent downloads marked as HDTV all the time. However not one of them has actually been HD resolution. They look "ok", but they're nowhere near 1080i or 720p.
As far as I heard, he was in Canada doing business over the internet. Some of his customers were Americans...and he sent seeds through the mail. There's an argument to be made that he was doing business in Canada not the United States.
Uhh...no...you have more like 300 million...and Canada has about 30 million....both rough estimates....the United States has 10 times the population of Canada...not 1000 times...sheesh!
I'm in Canada and have voted every opportunity I've had....I don't get why voting seems to be so difficult in other so called democracies. What's the deal with punching holes in ballots, using machines, etc, etc.... The way we do it here is a person hands you a piece of paper with the candidates names on it, they cross your name off a list, you mark an X beside the one you want, and you drop it in a box. Later on someone counts up the votes. I've never even had to wait in line to vote once...then again I go in the middle of the day while everyone's at work...but even when busy the lines are no longer than a 5 minute wait.
Where do you live that you can't buy a computer without windows? I think with the exception of my first PC, a 386, all of my computers have come without any OS...and I have had at least 20 or so over the past 15 years.
So I decided to see what this company is actually worth....considering I never use their products nor do I know anyone who does...and according to Nasdaq, they're worth over a billion dollars?
Damn....I can't remember the last time I gave up on a RealPlayer install. Who uses this stuff, and how the hell are they worth over a BILLION dollars today....let alone being worth ten times that 5 years ago
Didn't you know...the rich don't pay taxes. Especially not in Canada.
For example, Paul Martin the current Prime Minister and former Minister of Finance of Canada owns a large shipping company that's registered offshore. Ok, so he gave his company to his son when he became PM...but let's get real...he still owns it. What reason could he possibly have to register his company offshore other than to avoid taxes?
Quebec...free? Those two words don't seem to go together.
Are Quebecers FREE to publish something in a language other than french, without a french edition? Are they FREE to put non-french signs on their store fronts? Are they FREE to express themselves in a language other than french?
Who gets the tarrif in the end? Is it designed to pay the artists? If so...are the artists not being paid already when the user BUYS the product to begin with?
The tarrifs on blank media is to get the artists paid when someone copies their work...this is ridiculous.
I ran into a buddy who happens to work at the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa this past weekend....I asked him if it costs more or less than 1 cent to produce a penny....he said less. I suggest YOU visit the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa.
On a side note, he said that they take other factors besides the cost to produce one into consideration when deciding how many, and if at all, to mint pennies.
Hmmm....I guess the news story I saw the other day on an Ottawa news station lied then. That's where I got the.8 cent penny info. They had some guy from the mint who mentioned that.
As for the bank of Canada being a crown corp...you're right...I was wrong. However...can you explain to me why the government of Canada would borrow money from a company that it owns...and then proceed to pay them interest on such loans? Where does the profit go?
A buddy of mine keeps saying that he thinks we should get rid of the penny in Canada. However it's recently come to my attention that in order to produce a penny it costs 0.8 cents...so when the government owned mint produces a penny, they sell it to the banks for 1 cent thus profiting 0.2 cents, or a whopping 20%.
The production of paper money on the other hand actually COSTS the goverment (and taxpayers) money considering they borrow it from a third party (the bank of Canada and Fed are privately owned companies regardless of their name), but that's another issue all together.
Great....westerners give communist China financial assistance...then they try to put our companies out of business. What the hell are we doing business with a communist country with such horrendous human rights violations?

Research in Motion's stock is down over $5 today and has trading has been halted on the TSX. Coincidence?

For the same reason that Disney was permitted to get a free ride on other authors stories that found their way into the public domain.

How about someone go tell Rudyard Kipling's decendants that Disney is making money off Tarzan and The Jungle Book?
Why can Disney make money from someone elses work but Steamboat Willy can't enter the public domain?

don't buy their cameras....buy a different brand.

Quebec seems quite oppressive to me.

Doesn't amount to much??!?! Don't they charge interest on the money they lend? I'd imagine that would add up to a whole lot.
If the government owns the federal reserve...then does the government collect the profit the federal reserve makes?

Yeah...Expo 86 was held in Vancouver....but lots of people still went to Expo 67 in Montreal.
What do all these "method to" patents mean for anyone who wants to make a competing product? For example, if someone were to sell mythtv boxes?
Great....westerners give communist China financial assistance...then they try to put our companies out of business. What the hell are we doing business with a communist country with such horrendous human rights violations?
China's ok...but Cuba's bad?
