will be the day that economic Russian Roulette and ecological suicide are placed in the museum
I agree with most of your post, but...
Egyptian mummies and other relics of failed experiments in society.
I sure wouldn't call Egyptian mummies failed experiments. The reason that we all know about them is because of their relatively sophisticated embalming methods.
This begs to bring up the topic once more of whether we should build an international space defense system. Of course, we should be able to pick things out 20-30 years beforehand, but still - what if we caught something less than a year beforehand?
The initial piece in "Rendezvous with Rama" by Arthur C. Clarke posed this type of question, and he posed a rather interesting possible solution.
Hopefully, we can prevent ourselves from going the way of the Dinosaurs - or those shitty movies that were made in the last few years.
Yeah, what I want to know is - was the show any good?
Did they do a decent enough job creating an illusion to drive the plotline, or did it get caught up in technicalities? Was it empty-headed and dumb, like the Net, or did it carry some amount of storytelling, suspense, and plausible sci/tech like X-Files?
Would it be even more illegal if I played it really loud here at work (in Detroit) so that the people across the river in Canada were to hear it? Would that be exporting it?
you see, AOL *is* Time/Warner, which *is* part of the RIAA, so they're ripping off themselves, and suing themselves...? Will somebody explain to me what this incestuous sue happy/merger industry will become?
of course if Libyan terrorists do come to steal your uranium, you could always add a flux capacitor to your DeLorean, and travel back in time to make sure that it doesn't happen.
People have been wearing and eating animals for a LONG time.
Yeah, no shit. The point is that humans wore animal skins because there were no other alternatives. We wear them now because of tradition, not of necessity. This feeling of needing to enslave and slaughter other species has been rendered obsolete by our superior methods of clothing generation, and food creation.
that's no reason to continue though. In internet time, a Pentium II 333 is old, right? What about windows 3.1? That's absolutely ancient. Why do a lot of mainstream people use Windows instead of Linux? Because that's what they "grew up with", and they don't care that there may be viable alternatives. Why do a lot of people eat meat instead of only non-animal products? Because they don't care that there may be alternatives.
this is the same argument that some people could make for buying used fur. Sure, it's not quite as bad, because the animal was killed for someone else. But that's not the point.
The point of not buying fur is to kill the market for it. If a record store sees that all their used New Kids on The Block cds move out the door, then it might be convinced that there is a resurgence in their popularity, and they would be wise to order more.
Besides, couldn't you apply the same dumb argument to record stores? Sure - go and buy that new Kid Rock from the store, you're not giving money to the RIAA, no - the store already paid them for that cd, that blood money won't go to the RIAA.... nope.
If you really want to do a boycott properly, then you need to make a point of buying some non-RIAA music - even if you weren't intending to.
If you want unbiased reporting, go elsewhere because Slashdot continues to repeat the tired old "Linux rules, Microsoft sucks" mantra ad infinitum.
perhaps if you wanted to say "Linux sux" on a tech-forum (a place for critical thinkers), then you better list some reasoning for your claim. Make some arguments, make an attempt at deconstructing the counter arguments, - I mean the real ones.
That's how you'll get your posting moderated up - the partyline isn't always "Linux rul3z!", but what works, and an article whose main thrust is using a misinterpreted Bugtraq listing needs to be shot down in flames no matter what OS they're using.
By using those 41,500 Linux servers on one S/390 mainframe... that I bought for $45.00 - that's how:)
Or, I could convince people to join team slashdot at distributed.net for sending ping of deaths to hotmail just as M$ finishes switching over to Winblows!
This kind of stuff could quickly lead to popularity contests - who's the better known Sting? I mean, who's going to be looking for the WCW wrestler Sting?
if there are any artists that are starving, send me an email (you should be able to figure it out). Send me an mp3 of one of your songs. If I like it, then I will pay you a dollar for it and ask for more. Otherwise, I will kindly thank you and delete it.
p.s. I don't listen to much top40, country, rap, or classical.
Emmanuel Goldstein made the insightful and disturbing comment that there was really no one who could even report on the trial impartially, since every major news entity has an ownership relation of some sort with the studios who are suing 2600.
Au contraire mon frere, I heard a rather well written piece discussing the court case this morning on NPR... this is Public radio, we - the people - own it and contriubute to it.

Interesting that they choose to name by drawing tribute to Isaac Asimov.
I'll believe it when I feel pieces of it hit my head. Until then, I'm not holding my breath.

this site isn't much more than one of those end of magazine deals where they advertise x-ray vision glasses, and penis pumps.
the dude has a couple trashcans cut in half resting on a plank backpack. Hell, would you send me

If I were to spend my winter afternoon creating a story and a mock-up like this?
Would it be even more illegal if I played it really loud here at work (in Detroit) so that the people across the river in Canada were to hear it? Would that be exporting it?
there are no accidental births - what did you think the act of sex might result in? free beer?
Damn, that would be my idea of heaven.
This announcement follows monts after the disclosure
Hemos, we love you, but learn to spell! I'll buy you a dictionary if you like.
I was moderated down for this earler today, but I'd be willing to buy Hemos a dictionary if he would learn how to spell.

Mr. Major Domo for distributing information about illicit activities.

So - who's to stop the use of 1x2 or 2x1, or 2x2 images...?

Any living organism caught by the shock front from this thing is going to be jelly.
Blasting through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops boy!
Unices will be described in the media as being "Linux compatible" or "Linux-like", rather than the other way around.
Much like some people still refer to Wintels as IBMs. (even though there are more IBM components in an Apple these days than in most Wintels).
paul is dead
