I am so surprised they didn't make any money, mostly because I have never heard of "APB"... was their entire marketing plan built around word of mouth advertising?
Sounds like they are using the frequencies reserved in the US for R/C control, which require no license. Also, since they are using the power lines as a receiver, not a transmitter, HAM enthusiasts shouldn't have a problem with it. For the very limited niche it is designed for (home data collection), it's a cool system.
For "node-sized," think "size of a breakfast cereal prize."?
For those of us that haven't eaten cereal that comes with prizes for at least 40 years now, can you express that in more traditional units, e.g. volkswagens, libraries of congress, or common US coins? Alternatively, you you just give the fucking dimensions.
Like many great discoveries, this one was made quite by accident while the man was up late pondering the question "How can I get my underage cousin drunk so that I can take advantage of her?"
Sadly, slashdot remains last on both the list of sites from which to contract malware infections and the list of sites on which to meet people from which to contract an STD.
You don't even have to "purchase" Canadian citizenship -- you just need to deposit 6 figures in a Canadian bank and agree to keep it there. Not sure about the other countries, but allowing people to immigrate who a) are not criminals and b) can definitively demonstrate that they have the ability to support themselves, sounds like win-win in my book.
I agree, my backlit LCD phone display is completely unreadable in direct sunlight, but what about a display that does both emmisive and reflective well?
If I recall correctly, Galileo had a debate with the Church regarding his ideas and lost. Newton, on the other hand, was a genius in so many different areas that it is hard to conceive of many of his contemporaries having the nerve to strenuously disagree with him, even though I'm sure he did discuss his ideas with most of the greatest thinkers of his time.
Wait... explain to me again why any author would pay someone else to write glowing reviews of their book when, as an author, they are obviously qualified to write reviews of their own book, with which they are (presumably) intimately familiar?
Maybe not as big as hole as I oreginally thought. Nobody makes a recording device with DVI input, and DVI supports HDCP just like HDMI does. In fact, the digital video for HDMI is supposed to be electrically the same as DVI-D, hence the availability of cables that convert between the two. Yeah, I'm going to have to try it with the VGA output now...
It allows playback over DVI. I don't see any reason it wouldn't allow it over the VGA connector, but I haven't tried that yet. I do see your point; if it allowed playback over VGA out, that would be a gaping hole in their DRM scheme. But then, there is always an analog hole in any DRM scheme. -- what can be seen or heard by people can also be seen or heard by recording devices.
Or you could just install a BluRay reader in your PC, and BluRay watch movies in 1080p on your 27" 1920x1080 Samsung TV/monitor like I do. Much less work, really. My video card and monitor support HDMI, but I'm using DVI because it seems to be a better picture.

Thanks. The report you linked to beats the heck out of the puff pieces linked by the slashdot article with it's silly summary.
Even if the titanium was free, the cost of forming parts out of it would still be very high. It's not it's easy to weld that stuff together.
I believe the statements "Relying on composite materials and titanium" and "should cost less than $20,000" are contradictory.

How do you know God wasn't involved in the design of the vehicle to protect his beloved Pope?
P.S. Would you let this man babysit your kids?

It's better in the US because you can live in Washington State (with no state income tax) but still buy everything in Oregon (with no sales tax).

Oh, come on now... if it was 7 inches, how would she fit it in her pocket?
It would have to be at least 4 inches, though.
That's what she said!

If course they are, they're sinister! (From the Latin sinestra)
I thought the Wii let you configure whether you were left-handed or right-handed, though I suspect not all games support this.
If you get that big a hard-on reading a book about physics... well then, you must be an average slashdot reader.
Darn those Newton wanna-bes!
They're calling it a telescreen?
I think this technology will be really popular in the Lower Merion School District!

Ford has been doing that for years now!
