    Actually I'm stuck in the middle of a rather populated area in PA, USA. Cable comes from NJ and is too far, and I'm a stone's throw out of reach of DSL, mostly due to their incompitence, I think.

    As a slashdotter who is stuck on dial up due to my unfortunate location, I think I'll be sticking to older forms of TV for a while. I'm not exactly sure what they mean by internet video or why its so popular, so far it only seems to "buffer" and slow my blazing fast 56k connection...

    Or you can just fire up linux and give Redmond the finger. Last I checked Fedora core doesn't phone home, and if you feel like modifying it, its a much easier hack for us lazier coders.

    I wonder how much of this drop in computers without antivirus updates is caused by the user, and how much is caused by ISPs or vendors setting up or demanding it before users can access the internet.

    I also wonder where they got these people. Are they all AOL users? Were they selected "randomly" online? If so from where... my "random" selection of internet users from slashdot show interesting different results.

    It would be funny to get a shirt of this and run it to a bunch of capacitors or batteries that charge your tazer, so you'd be able to up the antee on your attacker.

    Tire pressure is related more to the amount of air you put in your tire than the weight of the car or suface area under the tire. You can probably pump the tire up pretty high before it pops, but it won't increase the pressure on the ground. Also, you can get tires with more surface area to lower the pressure on the ground.

    That being said, it probably isn't extreme pressure. If a car weighs 2 tons, thats 1000 lbs per tire, and if it has a surface area of 20sq in, then that is only like 50 lbs per square inch. Most cars don't way that much anyway (and probably have more surface area).

    Or some farfetched technology that focuses refracted light rays onto a sensor array to create a representation of the world so the computer could follow hand gestures. That would be really neet technology.

    I doubt this will ever be as cheap as raising real animals. You need all sorts of scientific measures to ensure that the sample isn't tainted, that it is in the proper conditions to grow, and I'm guessing very expensive equipment to grow it in quantity.

    On an ideological note, do any vegitarians have any feelings on this? It's not completely artificial, because its made from cells of living animals. Is it far enough away to be ok though?

    And lastly, I bet 'chicken' nuggets have been made without meat for a long time now. Just like our hot dogs.
