| The number of devices/programs you can actually create without running smack into someone's fool patent is very near zero.
The biggest problem is not that patents exisit, but that patents are granted for overly broad ideas for which the inventor nary needs to provide an application. People and companies would patent "1+1=2" as "A system to represent quantaties relationally" (and it would be granted) if it were concieved of in the last ten years, but this concept is so basic and fundamental to everything... imagine if you had to use a license to use addition, that is the state of the US Patent System.
You mean "popular artists" like Kelly Clarkson and Ashlee Simpson... The artists who deserve to be making money like Maroon 5, Coldplay and Velvet Revolver Seem to be doing just fine.
I guess you just dennis miller'd me, cause I apparantly don't know what play you're refering to.
If i had named him torvalds she would probably not know the reference either. Please enlighten me.

... my wife thinks he's named after a Peanuts character. What kind of geek would that make me?
Interesting that you should use disneyworld as your example as to what a big deal ESPN is. I guess Disney is the owner of Big Things.
OT: I wonder if Disney's ownersip of ESPN was a reason for them to sell the Anaheim Angels a few years back? Conflict of interest maybe? More likely, they just wanted to milk all they could out of a team fresh off a world series win...

You shouldn't have to. Thus our current problem.

wire an electromagnet above your hard-drive connected to a car battery, and install a switch on the front of your case.
poop hits fan, switch gets flipped, data goes bye-bye.
