    Better yet, I can get the latest version of just about any Windows app on my Windows without having to look at what version of 30 other applications I have.

    there still are package management systems that don't resolve (and update) dependencies of a package you want to install?

    I've only used portage and apt (and their various frontends), so please enlighten me which package management systems still fail at that task.

    one of the two unix computer classes of the university I attend to has the workstations named after beers - budweiser, pripps, etc. The other one has it's workstations named after characters from Tolkien's literature - gandalf and balrog, for example. The main servers are named somewhat chaotically, ssome meaning nothing (like "ar"), some named after scientists (like dijkstra), some have functional names ("class-schedule").

    so, which OS can display a PDF without external tools? You still need Acrobat or something similar to view it in Windows (of course, correct me if I'm wrong). Those tools are not part of the OS.

    a bridge will not become less useful when it is repainted. On the contrary, fresh paint will slow down rusting (and other types of deterioration due to weather). Besides, freshly painted bridge looks better than a bridge that hasn't been painted in a decade.

    Bridges need to be maintained to remain useful. The same applies to software.

    Can you give examples of good Exchange replacements?

    I believe there were e-mail servers before Exchange was created. qmail, sendmail, postfix?
    Granted, I haven't set up any of those and I know far too little about Exchange to know what qualifies as a "good" alternative.

    having the passwords of an offender gives the officers an opportunity to use the offender's credentials to commit crimes on the offender's behalf.

    As I've understood, working part time actually means doing the same amount of work as you'd do when working full time, except you'll have half the time to do it.
