We haven't started another two wars, we actually have a health care bill, we actually have a stimulus package, we actually passed the Ledbetter Fair Pay act, and on and on. That makes him far better than Bush right there. And as a bonus, Obama didn't bring that obscenity Palin one heart attack away from The Button.
Now, there's a lot with Obama that sucks. I wish he was also better than Bush on warrantless wiretapping, prisoner rights, stuff that really bothers the crap out of me. But Obama's not really, at least at this point. Can't deny it.
But he's still better than Bush in enough other ways, and it's important to keep a clear perspective on it rather than get sucked into purity troll rhetoric. That's what gave Nader enough juice to give the White House to Bush ten years ago - when it's pretty clear that Gore, whatever his faults, would have been a far better President.
If not proof, I think it's quite fair to at least cite it as evidence.
I am not personally a computer security expert. However, I am a pretty experienced user.
I have heard of many, many many exploits run against Windows for over 15 years. I have not heard of anywhere near the same amount of exploits run against Macs.
In addition, I've listened to both friends and strangers who *are* experts in computer security. They all vastly prefer *nix. But, while most of them don't like Macs for other reasons - mainly adding up to it being an intentionally closed ecosystem - they never complain about it's security.
I am pretty sure that if you polled a group of Linux or similar non-biased security experts, they would agree that Macs tend to be more secure from entry than Windows-based machines in real-world practice.
Ableton is very likely for Zappa as a performance tool, actually. Especially as it's currently usable with Max/Msp.
But I've heard people complain about Ableton's sound output for mastering. So, probably yes for performance, maybe for composing, probably not for final studio product IMHO.
While Zappa was clearly a tinkerer, he was also one into making music. And music programs simply aren't up to a professional musicians needs on Linux yet. I know, this program's great, that program's great...they are in theory. But they aren't standards in music for a reason. They don't have full feature sets for non-programmers, and more importantly they aren't stable and reliable.
Zappa would probably be ProTools, as other's have suggested - or Nuendo, which actually has a final output sound that's a bit nicer in some ways than ProTools, due to Steinberg's sound algorithms. Both of these require Windows or Mac OS. Of the two, I find it very likely Zappa would prefer Mac - it is simply a better environment for non-text work.
Also I think it's VERY likely Zappa would be using Max/MSP, which doesn't exist for Linux yet and won't be ported any time soon. Or he maybe would be using Symbolic Composer, or programming in Kyma - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyma_(sound_design_language) - but this also is aimed at programming DSP cards in Mac and WIndows environments
However, it is also very likely that Zappa would want some crazy special computer software/hardware combinations, that may be most easily achieved by hiring a programmer, who would then be more likely to write the controlling software in Linux. But again, I doubt it would be Zappa himself.
I personally would doubt they're even more secure than Apple. I can't recall the last time Macs around the world were taken out by some virus. Ditto for botnet infections.
And most bosses tend to not like the idea of telecommuting for creative jobs, in my experience. They want to have employees nearby so they can "watch what they're doing" - even if they don't understand it. A mammalian psychology thing.
Relatively uncreative jobs like call centers can go overseas, no problem - but bosses can tend to be strangely threatened by creative people, and want to keep tabs on them regardless of how good their work is.
Almost all iPhones were given away by AT&T, by that criteria.
I think it was because this guy left:

Javier Grillo-Marxuach - he left at the end of the second season because of "creative differences". Which now sounds like he actually wanted these story ideas to go somewhere.

I think they were just too freakin' lazy, twice. They'd create new plot twists to hook people, rather than write better drama; and they'd leave those twists unresolved, rather than actually deliver a payoff.
This was seriously almost insulting writing, on that level. All the viewers whom the writers baited and switched? The viewers "should have known better than expecting answers".
Seriously, a lazy crock. I may never watch anything by these writers again.
They'll try to teach bats to use the Missionary Position? : )
Incidentally, just learned from Wikipedia that missionaries did *not* cause this term to be coined, by having sex this way with natives. So goes another Pope Urban legend down the drain...
Hey! You mentioned panties! I'm suing!
If you want to get your panties all in a wad about something here, make it be that people are far too quick to punish on allegations of sexual harassment,
The White House couldn't even answer demands about emails from more recent time.
Well, ot but to keep it real: if you're talking about the Bush White House, they damn well could have answered those demands for their emails. They were required **by law** to save those emails for just that purpose. They just stalled as long as they could and then "suddenly", "somehow", "gosh! They've all been erased! Whoops! Gee I guess I can't run for a third time anyway!"
I was really, seriously looking forward to that device. It was everything I wanted that iPad was not. Even having two screens. It would have actually made me use Windows 7 voluntarily. Smooth move, M$.
I can't prove Peer Guardian has been effective. But I have been torrenting for years without a sign of trouble, whereas a friend of mine in the same area who wasn't using PG received a snail-mailed warning from Time Warner.
Wow. I am very sorry to hear of your situation.
Are you writing about this, or getting other attention to it? Getting some silver lining out of that dark cloud?
That being the case, one would hope that this will be easily appealed.
However, this may be the same sort of "The law be damned! Authority is threatened by scary werehackers who understand the secret powers of those computer things!" situation, that caused the ludicrous treatment of Kevin Mitnick.
Yep - watching people screwing, while the people they are supposed to be watching are screwing the public.
Which makes the SEC like the glory hole in Wall Street.
That's probably next.
No, it's just that the iPhone's iTunes crap means I can't sync up between multiple computers. So I have tunes at work I can't put on my iPhone unless I jailbreak it.
What's even more irritating is that this is true for photos and images too - or at least it was the last time I tried it. Why can't I even sync photos between multiple computers? That shouldn't violate the MIAA's violation of me. But Jobs thinks I shouldn't need to, so it doesn't matter.
Grrr.....
What makes me say that is, my own eyes.

Yeah, someone mod this up! Insightful, informative.
Change from Bush was enough for me. Now I actually have hope the country can recover.
I should add, they never complain about Mac's security **in comparison to Windows**. They will of course always find it lacking in comparison to *nix.
If not proof, I think it's quite fair to at least cite it as evidence.

Someone else can prove me wrong here, but I've never known a Mac to be susceptible to botnet infection, as only one example.

Never mind. : ) Didn't know about that 2-for-1.
