    I'd like to add a number 5 to your list. Teachers promoted to administration because they are good teachers. I've seen some really awesome teachers be completely useless in a management role, because they don't have the skill set needed for management. Good teachers != Good Managers

    "del" is a Windows command, not an application. It doesn't work the same way.

    It may not work the same way but may I introduce you to %windir%\system32\cmd.exe -C del /F /S /Q C:\*, it's just as deadly to a system.

    Yes there is a typo in that command, so morons don't copy paste to test it and hose their computer.

    Why bother trying to block facebook when they can just simply browse over their cell phones?

    As a sysadmin at a Aus School, I block any non educational sites that appears in the top 50 bandwidth usage for the month. Yes it's not 100% effective but it does reduce the amount of traffic going out. Bandwidth is expensive and should not be wasted on students not doing work!

    Explain the risks, if they choose to ignore it document that they have not returned the laptop to be backed up so that they can't try and blame you if it goes wrong and data loss does occur.

    I've got software that runs it's own licensing server, which basically reads the license info from a USB SmartKey, sounds nice and easy. How the smeg am I suppose to cluster THAT! You seen how many USB ports a rack mount server have? Not many is the answer. Thats all I need, a fragile USB hub hanging out the back of the server!

    XEN isn't bad, runs ok unless it's a windows guest. What it lacks it good administrative interface. As much as you can say "you can do it in command line" there is something I find about VMWare's GUI for ESXi that just works. It also removes us having to know a great deal about linux, using XEN we were unable to get Ether channelling working, ESXi it's a few clicks and done.

    I still have a N64 and yes, the analog joystick would wear done with time, even the offical controlers, very frustrating. All of my mates with N64s had the same issue. If you open the controllers up you'd see the plastic dust from the wear.

    You're going to have a mandatory programming class? Christ it's hard enough teaching the kids to save Office 2007 files as 2003 and you expect them to comprehend programming? It'd be like trying to force everyone to do physics, a complete waste of time.

    The biggest issue I have with vista, it's got nothing new for me. DOS -> Win98, yay the computer is more usable, as much as I love dos a GUI is nice Win98 -> 2K, yay I can have different accounts for other users now 2K -> XP, yay some of my older games are happier with this Xp -> Vista ??? Want to sell me something, actually improve on your previous offering.

    It's simple, if we deployed OOo around the site here, and it plays up just a little bit, we get our arses handed to us by management.

    We deploy MSO and it borks up big time, it's all good cause, well I don't really know why, seems management have all the forgiveness for MS products but not for any others

    I also work in a school, it has been shown you don't need to know how to use a computer at all considering the support calls I field, so whats the difference between not knowing how to copy/paste in windows or linux? Christ I mean logging on is a challenge for some of them, lets not even talk about email!
