Now, humans are actually a quite fragile animal themself. So I could see the need to make "hybrids" but at the same time I doubt if it's worth it. The hybrid may wind up with brain damages or sickness and probalby could die early in life, if it will live at all.
And due to the human nature, I can see problems with the general acceptance of creatures that are humans but is partly an another animal. Looking back at history...
