Have you ever serious considered what would happen if, say 60-70% of voters either voted neither of above, or voted for a third party candidate?? Yes.. Yes.. I know.. it'll NEVER happen... But just suppose.. Dont you think the media would try to cover that up? Of course, as the counts came in, the non-traditional media would pick it up and run with it... What do you want to bet the Powers-That-Be would mightily to stop that info from getting out.... But what are they gonna do, shut down the internet??
I see the current media in the US as the "US Dept Of Propaganda"... I suspect Hitler's propaganda minister would be smiling up from his little hole in Hell at what the media has become....
Frankly, since either candidate is gonna fuck this country up beyond repair, I'm paying zero attention to anything further during this "election cycle".... I've already voted for the lesser of two evils.. you can probably tell from my sig... We have early voting here.. Voted two weeks ago...
In the early 70s I made several trips to Australia for work, and was blown away by the size of the country, and the wonderful people. For a while, I seriously considered emigrating there... It pains me to see how authoritarian it has become.. And of course, my native USA is right on its heels.. I'm terrified about what's gonna happen to America if (oh hell, its when) Comrade Obama and his neo-communist (was US Democrat party) get in power.. And as the parent poster said, the "shopping list" of alternate countries is getting ever shorter.... I suspect the last 20 or so years of my life (am 58 now) will be in an ever increasing copy of what the old Soviet Union was like..... I cry..
I generally write off the ACLU as a leftist organization, but in this case, I applaud them!! This type of info needs to be publicized, and of course the "US Dept of Propaganda" (the major media) isn't going to do that...
hmmmm... The "government" doesn't launch the missiles... A guy/gal who originally came from Anytown, USA, does that.. and if push came to shove, and the order came down to say, fire a cruise missile at say, a large congregation of protestors, I wonder how many of these everyday-joes in uniform wouldn't in the end, frag the officer who was ordering them to essentially commit mass murder against fellow citizns... Something to think about...
Don't know about that.. I'd agree the old style tapes were flaky as heck... the old MammothII "miniVHS" 8mm tape cartridges were the pits.. But these newer LTO1/2/3/4 tapes, are something else.... At work, we bought an Overland NEO2000 tape library and two HP LTO3 drives back in Nov 2006, and one as yet, unused cleaning tape. We were advised by Overland/HP to set up the library to automatically run the cleaning tape when the drives requested it.. So far, the drives have not requested any cleaning yet, and we're rapidly coming up on two years of backing up over 5TB/wk on the system. Feeling nervous as heck to go so long without cleaning/maintainance, we've pestered HP/Overland about every six months as to why the system hasnt cleaned itself yet.. They keep saying... don't manually clean, let the drive request cleaning... and so far, neither drive has.. And having come from a DLT/MammothII system before the LTOs, where tapes came out of the wrapper with large quantities of soft r/w errors, and hard r/w errors were common, and would kill your job dead often, these LTO's are worth their weight in gold in my opinion....
Wow! I never knew there was a live camera onboard the ISS.. Guess I gotta get back active again.. Haven't touched a mike or key in over 3 years, but just renewed the ticket..
Umm... Isn't this old news?? I'm already running OO 3.0, the mirrors had it the other day... Looks fantastic! One more nail in the coffin of MSOffice....
Ever_So_Slightly_OT... Those of us who bought Dell laptops with a Nvidia 84/86M video, are looking at the same manufacturing defect.. Dell's only response so far, is to issue a bios upgrade that simply runs the fan all the time and add a years warantee onto whatever you already have, for any video failures... WAY too little.. Dell/HP, and whatever other laptop mfgrs who use these defective chips need to go after Nvidia in a big way, and give users with these faulty systems at least a 5yr warantee on video failures.. I bought my Vostro 1400 since I needed a laptop with Nvidia video for some OpenGL stuff that was recommended to run on Nvidia video vs ATI...
..And when the Nvidia 8400M in my Dell laptop goes poof, will Dell replace it with a "fixed" chip or just another defective chip?? Enquiring minds want to know... Dell? Are you listening?? (nah, I seriously doubt it...)
I escaped the "People's Republic Of Kalifornia" back in 1996... It was bad enough back then, and I just can't imagine how much more damage the idiotic socialists running the state have since inflicted on that beautiful state.. Since my wife's sister lives there, we get the "pleasure" of a short trip out there once a year... Thats about all I can stand of the place...
If you're into SecondLife, you (actually your avatar) can walk around a scale model Enterprise bridge, transporter room, both from the original series.. Its VERY well done... I live in Las Vegas, and only heard about the Experience closing today.. I last visited it about 5 years ago, when friends were here from out of town. They wanted to do the "ride", and at the time it was about $25 for locals, if I remember correctly.. From what I see on the current webpage, its now (or WAS) $50!! for a flippin' 18 min ride??? No wonder it closed... I'm a pretty rabid ST fan, but there's no way in hell I'd pay $50 for an 18 min ride...
YESSSS!!!! I used to use PayMyBills/PayTrust, loved them, had one biller claim I hadn't paid several months payments, PayMyBills, when asked, contacted the biller, and voila! problem solved.. But when IntoShit took them over, I dropped them like a hot potato, and told them so at the time....
I get this picture of a tiny little mouse flipping the finger at this giant eagle swooping down on the mouse.. Then the mouse pulls out a 50cal machine gun and blasts the eagle... Or at least that's how I *hope* this goes... In case, you can't tell, I'm definitely FOR Psystar...
Who needs Apple or MacOS? A nice Dell Vostro1400 with Ubuntu does the trick nicely without Microsoft...
What absolutely blows my flippin' mind is the sites that ask you these questions, and hide the answers you typed with asterisks, as though they were a password. This kinda defeats my cut/pasting the exact answers I used into my local encrypted password store. And of course, after 6 months, you try to login in a hurry to pay your car insurance premium (Yes.. I'm talking about YOU, StateFarm Insurance...), you can't remember *precisely* what you entered 6 months ago, case and everything... so you *have* to call into their offshore callcenter, and wait..wait..wait.. This was a signifcant reason I dumped them, not to mention saving nearly $800/yr with another carrier...
I'm a recent convert to Ubuntu, but have been in the trenches with Linux since 1994. I've asked several questions on the Ubuntu community forum, questions which were Ubuntu-specific, gave plenty of info, was very polite, and as of yesterday, one question had been there two weeks, and the other, one week, with zip answers.. I'm in the process of weaning my employer off RedHat, in favor of CentOS, on several new servers. The CentOS forums are what I'd expect of excellent community support.. Several questions were answered almost before I completed posting the question:-> I love Ubuntu for desktop systems and especially for laptops, but I'd be leery of it for server use, unless I bought a support subscription from Canonical..
Since it appears we now live in a police state, don't take any laptops across any border.. Now when they start doing this elsewhere, then they can pry my laptop from my cold dead fingers...
All I want to say is God Bless you, Ray Beckerman.. You are the lone voice crying in the wilderness against the RIAA/MPAA... May you continue fighting the good fight!!
I'm falling out of my chair laughing at this idiot.. While typing this on a laptop running.... wait for it.. Linux... They'll pry Linux from my cold dead fingers..
>> Elderly people STILL predominately vote Republican, and at THIS POINT, that is clearly stupid.
Not HALF as stupid as voting for the other pant-load..
We have two bad choices.. One's a steaming pile of cow-dung and the other one is merely a pile of barf.. I can tell you which one *I'll* choose, come November... It SURE won't be Obama-Mama!!
Your wish is NOT my command, Comrade UncleWilly...

Its getting to be that if you want to fly somewhere, you FedEx your stuff to your destination, then report to the airport in your birthday suit...

There.. Fixed that for ya...
