It was the 'european settlers' that started that. It took hundreds of years of stirring the gene pool to get that hot european conquest blood diluted to the point where things could settle down. :)

  2. Re:Copyrighted books on Authors Guild Sues Google Over Print Program · · Score: 1

I don't know what Libraries have to do to have the rights to loan books out, but what google is doing seems to me to be a better option for writers and publishers.

    Quote from Google Print:
Click a book title and you'll see the page of the book that has your search terms, along with other information about the book and "Buy this Book" links to online bookstores (you can view the entirety of public domain books or, for books under copyright, just a few pages or in some cases, only the title's bibliographic data and brief snippets). You can also search for more information within that specific book and find nearby libraries that have it.

For a copyrighted book the user would still have to go to either a retailer(online or brick and mortar) or a library to view full contents. Allowing a user to view a few pages of a work IS allowed under fair use. So I don't see how what google is doing is illegal.

Until some other form of broadcast DRM hits and your precious pre-broadcat flag tuner becomes useless. This is just the beginning. The MPAA/RIAA don't want any media to be outside of their control. Thank the supreme court for killing FCCs broadcast flag, all that means is that it will take vendors longer to agree on a far reaching DRM scheme. Once that happens heaven help us all.
In the meantime visit independent artists and show your support cuz they're all that we few free consumers will be able get without restrictions.

No, but how many people have so far been forced to upgrade from Win95 to something newer when MS announced its end of life and newer MS technologies don't work on it?
Or this one.. WHEN not if, MS announces end of life for WinXP how are you going to get a new activation code when you install a new hard drive? I know that alone has been a large driving force behind my move to linux.

I said screw that, told the user to shut it down while I burned a DSL CD, and 30 mins later he had 4 CDs worth of his data.)
