Then I installed a Fedora 20 (Mate Edition) and everything went fine but one thing. The installation kernel did not recognize the intel ethernet. I plugged in an old Realtek PCI, did a "yum upgrade" and with kernel 3.15 even the intel ethernet started working.

    Hope it helps.

So I have no good moral. Nice to know.

In my life I have gone through knee surgery (because of defective design, not a trauma), through eye laser surgery, I have a small but annoying defect to both my feet and there are chances I'll develop colon cancer in the future (it has a genetic base, my mother died because of that one month ago).

Plus I'm bald (and even if the British Journal of Medicine say it's not an illness it's not definitely a nice "feature") and just 1.72m in a country where the medium height for a male it's 1.74m.

If I could avoid this kind of problems to my offsprings (first the serious ones and then the less serious ones) you can be assured I would do it.

For a simple reason. My son/daughter will be the most important person to me and I'll try to do my best for him/her.

If this makes me a "selfish and immoral parent" i have a news for you: You are a moron.

  14. No changes to the computers configuration? on Ask Slashdot: Ubuntu Lockdown Options? · · Score: 1

We have a somewhat similar setting to administer tests to our students (not using a java app but a web app developed in house and moodle with its quiz module, according to the type of test)

If you are not allowed to make changes to the computers configuration, I cannot give specific advice on "computer locking" to disable the launch of other applications.

As far as the internet access is concerned we have all of our computers (~ 40) behind a linux nat/firewall and we simply "tune" the nat configuration in order to avoid internet access during the tests.

Anyway, in every room, there is always at least one proctor.
