  1. Yeah, but why don't they put in 40? on Higher Pay For U.S. Federal Computer Jobs · · Score: 1

I'll tell you why, because it just isn't worth it. When I went from being a contractor to perm empmloyee of the government my pay was chopped right in half. Sure we have some good bennies, but with everything tallied together I was still doing well as a contractor. When I was a contracter and actually felt well compensated for my time, then I would work as long as the company needed me to. HA! Not for the change they give me now.
The one BIG thing that lured me to the dark side....the one big perk that I couldn't turn down....was the education. Getting ready to make moves (finally) into some newer technology. That's what got me on board.

Don't vote. Seems like a good idea in theory anyway. Too bad only about a quarter of the country votes anyway, and the current political process goes on.

  5. Re:Voting does not give you a voice. on Politics With A Slice Of Lemon · · Score: 1

I said "If you aren't vocal, if you don't let government know what you think and want and if you don't vote, then you turn into a society of the governed."

Get out, protest, be heard, but in the end you have to vote.

You have to vote for your state officials and then vote for the higher offices. Hopefully you were able to elect state reps who actually listen to how you vote in the federal elections.

I'm not saying that by simply voting we can fix the way government currently runs. But it IS one of the things you have to do if you want change.

Not to mention that you can't expect polliticians to pay any attention to you if they know that you aren't going to vote. If you don't vote, then you are of no use to them. They need to get elected to do what they want to do. If you aren't for them, then you are against them. Pretty simple.

Even if they said "ok, across the board everyone gets a 2% tax cut." 2% of 500k in taxes is a lot more than 10k in taxes.

For me what it all boils down to is Gore is for big government and Bush is for giving some power back to the states and making people accountable for their own life. For Christ's sake people, this is America. You make your own way in life, and you should take care of yourself. I look at Gore and I see a future where everyone has health care. sure. fine. Ok. everyone, just give the government your money and you will be taken care of. Sounds like a good plan eh, Comrad?
If I just work the government will give me health care. They'll give me a house. They'll give me food. Work for the good of the country.

I believe in an America where your free to do what you want and that includes take care of your own health care. Invest your own money for retirement.

The choice is simple, vote Gore for big government that will take care of you.
Vote Bush if you want to see some of power and some of the accountablity fall squarely on the states and yourself.

The sad fact is, most of America today is content to be taken care of. For heavens sake, don't make me responsible for myself.
