I noticed this years ago, that If you look at the language used by the reviewers you can see that they are usually done by children and teenagers. The reviews usually happen during school months, and large blocks of them happen within a few days. It seems like teachers are having students review books online as part of a class project. Most of these books are required reading in many schools. The typical "This book was boring" post is common when you force today's kids with zero attention span to read something that doesn't' involved robots or anime.
How about we don't look at it in terms of dollars. How about we look at it in terms of resources and man power.
$630,000 is about 10 man/years worth of work. So that's 10 people working for a whole year to save one man (truthfully it's a whole lot more than ten people working less than a year each but lets just break it down real simple). Now if these 10 people were used in another way in the medical system, how many lives could they have saved?
When you stop looking at as simply dollars and put people and resources behind it you can't just say "save one life at any cost" anymore. Because the dollar amount and the resources that back it up are not infinite.
Exactly what I was thinking when I read the article. I remember writing Activision back in the day (when I was 12) asking who composed the music and where I could buy the sound track. I did get a very dismissive response stating that there was no soundtrack and that they would not release any such information to me. Game designers have such great social skills.
With the HUGE cost of the battery, would it not be prudent to install some sort of micro controller to monitor for and log any such situations?
Bring the battery to the depot, automated system reads battery logs indicating that it has been sitting for X months, robot now sets it aside for further testing.
1. Write script to repeatedly access IPED site to see if current IP is under investigation.
2. Have script try to access ilovekidgoatsex.com
3. Place script on buddy's computer.
4. Sit back and wait for IPRED to investigate buddy.
5. Hilarity

way to late for this (forgot about threat)
but not, visible light will do it to
ever heard of photosensitive dyes?
the reason i said behind glass is that the glass will sheild from UV,
i have had papers fade in my car even through the UV blocking layer on the glass
quit posting as AC
leave a piece of coloured paper in sunlight or any visible light (even behind glass so it's shielded) It will eventually fade. Now try leaving your cellphone on the same piece of paper, does it fade now?
I'd be willing to bet that the visible light will affect the paper many many times faster than the radiation emitted by the cellphone (or Wifi device)
Isn't ppm a percentage, shouldn't 200ppm at sea level be the same percentage of oxygen as 200ppm at altitude (just fewer molecules). Or is this not how the sensors are calibrated.
I subscribe to several yahoo groups and would love to see rss feeds for them. They could even make me look at an advertisement with each message instead of just with the index page. The yahoo groups interface is horrible but the content can be quite vaulable, if they made it easier to view I, and many others would probably check it out more often.
The article states that the nanotubes channel the heat to hotspots that thenreach 1800 Kelvin. Perhaps this property could be used in the next generation of solar collectors?
It has been said coutless times in comments here on slashdot, that downloads are not counted when you download with firefox, or when you are updating to the latest version. Perhaps to avoid all the comments about "most of these coming form upgrades, etc", submitters, or even better, editors need to add some additional facts to the post.
an example of what they could add:
"NOTE: Downloads started with the firefox browser or downloads initiated by update are not counted"
I keep hearing about these things on slashdot. This must be a US only product. I cannot find anywhere in Canada that sells these things. Perhaps someone can buy a bunch and sell them on ebay with a slight markup? I'd buy one.

I saw that commercial too... ...oh it's Russian?
What's the Russian equivalent of Pepsi?

A link from 2003, has a bit more to it than the article cited in the original post.
