    As part of Microsoft's settlement with AOL, AOL gets to bundle IE royalty-free for the next seven years.

    Despite AOL's seven-year contract to use IE in its flagship service, Parsons was vague about the future of Netscape beyond maintaining it as a subsidiary under AOL. He said AOL is continuing to evaluate Netscape for its value but pledged AOL's support for IE.

    They don't need IE for Mac anymore, because they killed the only real threat they felt they had: Netscape. Now that AOL has essentially killed Netscape/Mozilla off, Microsoft can end the charade.

    I think you are missing the point. The U.S. is not as highly urbanized as Canada. In other words, there are a lot of people living in rural, small town, and exurban areas, who are outside the practical reach of broadband service.

    Canada, being highly urbanized, has a higher percentage of its population in dense urban areas, so providing broadband is easier.

    Canada's population tends to be more concentrated than that of the U.S. It is one of the most urbanized nations in the world.

    I don't see any "responsiveness" problem in XFree. But, I'm not using it to play games.

    Konqueror from CVS_HEAD is pretty cool.

    It lets you block popups, window resizes, window moves, etc. at a very granular level (per domain).

    With Klipper running, right-click on the Klipper icon, and deselect "Actions Enabled."

    This will disable the auto popup thingy.

    Now, when you highlight a URL that you want to view, just do a Ctrl-Alt-R, and there's your menu.

    Nope.

    First of all, what you meant to say was the highest unemployment. States like West Virginia have "worse" economies (based on per-capita income) by far. They only have lower unemployment rates because unemployment rates only measure the number of people out of work who are seeking work. People who are not actively in the job market are not included.

    And we no longer are tops in unemployment rate, regardless. Washington now holds that crown.

    Well, you do have to install it, and then in Konqueror's preferences, let the plugin thingy find it. But I have used it for a while, and Flash 6 works just fine.

    FYI, Flash does work with Konqueror. Dunno about Quicktime.

    The petulant griping of the Mozilla fanboys aside, Apple has done a great thing here.

    I am a Konqueror user, and am very happy that Apple has contributed a large number of improvements to KHTML, with more to come, I'm sure!

    IBM developed and released (in a very limited release) a microkernel-based OS/2 Warp (PowerPC Edition) in 1995.
