yeah the original version of it had this problem, i'm sure they've fixed it by now but i haven't used it since the original.
they've also picked up a few other big name adopters like richie hawtin, but of course their own spokesdjs are going to use it regardless of the quality, thats just part of the larger promo scene.
stanton just bought the software from some scandinavian guys, which is probably why it runs on linux. originally it ONLY ran on linux which was a bad idea considering most of the djs out there arent the biggest tech guys. I had to walk one of my friends through a linux install on his laptop just to get this to work... then after all that it didn't work because the first release version was incredibly picky about the USB hub you were attaching it to, which is why they were trying really hard to bundle it with a VIAO since they were compatible.
i haven't used it since then, but hopefully this issue as well as the horrible latency issues that made it pretty much unusable for scratching have been fixed.
with NI getting on board i have the feeling it will be fixed soon if its not already.
as for the gripes about sound quality... i don't know what kind of clubs you go to, but by the time the music has it your ear's its bounced off the walls about 3000 times, had to go around various obstructions that absorb mid/high freqs (such as people's hair and clothes) and passed through a bunch of leaky ass analog connectors half of which probabaly arent shielded.
I agree that in a clean environment you do get far superior sound quality out of vinyl compared to any of the digital media, but in a club setting that really isn't an issue due to all of the other noise, not to mention the distortion on the speakers from kicking out 120db.
or the new DENON decks with the rotation thing that i think you were referring to... i demoed them and they're really not bad at all--they certainly beat the crap out of the old pio cdj1000's although i havent tried the 1000mk2's yet.
thats why i use the numark dmc-1... its as well built as any of the numark line of cd decks--mostly because they stripped the interface plate right off a CDN-44 and threw an RS-232 converter on it.
that said, it puts up with the hardest beating that i give it (which is pretty nasty since i spin UK HH among other 'fast' music) and keeps on going.
as for this thing, I'm not sure how durable it would be but i'm definitely interested in it since it supports general midi and would be compatible wiht a ton of better dj software than what they bundle it with such as Native Instruments's Traktor.
I think it will remove a lot of people from the gene pool either way because i doubt they considered the potential for some idiot to wear this outside during a thunderstorm (not when its raining, just when there is lightning in the area). And you thought golfers were walking targets...
I donno, i just thought that this was very similar to what they did with command and conquer when they turned it into that 3d FPS -- which incidentally i thought was pretty cool. It wasn't 'the best FPS i've every played' by any measure, but it was kinda nifty seeing the vehicles from command and conquer in an fps--and being able to pilot them too.
Is it just me or is this one of those famously misleading headlines (like you commonly find in newspapers)
When I first read this i read it as Comet hunting for the masses--as in Comet is actively seeking out and attempting to run over (in a cosmic sort of way) 'the masses' whoever they might be.
I got a good chuckle out of it for about 10seconds.
Again this is pre-coffee, so that might explain it.
i invent colors very carefully by clicking on a patented Adobe®(TM) Tab in my macromedia fireworks application, which then yields a dropdown allowing me to 'invent' upwards of 216 websafe colors--I'd say in a given day I invent about 200-5000 different colors, and yes, I file patents for them all--My next lawsuit will be against/. for stealing my latest invention... that spiffy green color.
sorry if its not funny, i haven't had my caffine yet.
Yeah, that kinda worries me about when we get to see ents--I have the feeling the next theater release might have an extra 2 hours or so tacked on just for a single ent's name--and that's the SHORT version;)
I purchased something similar from telex a couple of weeks ago in order to get a second sound out from my laptop--I bet the quality is better on the creative one though--although the telex one sounds pretty decent considering how cheap it was.
Yeah there is a boot time difference--but what they did is migrate a lot of the booting process behind the GUI startup--i donno if you noticed or not that even though it boots faster its slow as hell for the first 2min or so while it finishes the boot process in the background... at least that was my experience with it.
Not only that, but the new RTCW demo has a HUGE audience considering its only been out for a few weeks--and the fact that it's gameplay is almost identical to Team Fortress (ahhhh the good old days!) My guess is that a lot of people that got into Counterstrike for the 'teamplay' aspect of it will be returning to the quake3 engine for RTCW once it goes gold.
Wow... I had to go through the metal detectors to pick up my friend at his gate and they made me turn on my PDA to prove it worked. Just making it work is kinda silly to me though--The compact flash slot on my nino is big enough that you could probably but something 'bad' in there and get it in with the device still intact. I would image laptops have even more internal space... like the ones with second HD bays, etc.
Do you mean like transfering data on the 'flat' part of the AC wave? Or that thing that was mentioned a long time ago on here where you send data inside the magnetic field that is created by the power line--I recall something about the ability to detect lightning strikes in one part of the country very far away on the grid.
To a certain degree yes, but its really easy to fly a plane maybe 50 miles once its already off the ground--in clear skys. Landing, takeoff, and tricky weather are the hard bits of flying--not that I am ruling out some pilot experience.
Also I think it is important to note that ALL of the aircraft hijacked were twin engine aircraft. Anyone that has ever taken aviation classes is aware that there are different pilot qualifications based on the type and number of engines on the aircraft--its much easier to learn a 2 engine aircraft than a 4 engine aircraft--perhaps this had something to do with it.
As a fellow web developer I TOTALLY AGREE. I ONLY design for IE--simply because when i am on a budget I can't take the time to write 3 FRIKKIN VERSIONS OF MY SCRIPTS... not to mention the HORRID css support in netscape--mozilla is SLIGHTLY better, but it still has a LONG LONG way to go before I am happy with its CSS rendering capabilites. For the time being anyone that doesn't use IE is screwed... lol. They need to make a STABLE version of IE for *NIX... if they did that and made dreamweaver for linux I wouldn't have to dual boot anymore.
how would you be able to read the timecode off the discs without the scratch amp?

yes but see with all the e-mail scams he is allowing them to do, they will be able to buy food and medicine.
i'm reminded of certain e-mails from nigeria...
next they're going to want to fire a moab up there... then we'll REALLY see the water vapor when it blows up into a huge dust cloud.
personally i stopped bothering to sign up with them because i got more spam from them then any other 'legit' convention so far.

Untrue--flash is just like any other medium--the usability is based on how thoughtful your design process is.

I think the death gate cycle would make a good movie as well.

That's quite a memorial considering how much it costs to ship stuff per pound into space... I suppose a flag doesn't have that much mass, but still...

As far as I see it most processors have a 'RISC' core--its the ALU :P
whack a mole... hahahahahahah... That's hilarious.
