I would have to disagree and say that the biggest problem with computer graphics being fine art is a lack of acceptance by people that DO NOT UNDERSTAND the rapidly evolving technology. I have a general stereotype that all 'old' people do not understand technology or its use... Granted there are MANY exceptions to this stereotype, however there are MANY MORE people that fit it perfectly. I am involved in several art communities--fine arts--classically defined, and NOT A SINGLE of of these communities uses computers for anything other than publishing the newsletter, simply because they do not understand HOW to use the computer, and thus they are afraid of it.
I don't really consider removing the faces discouraging the EMPLOYEE's from finding out about employment opportunitites, its just keeping other companies from ACTIVELY recruiting them.
I am working on the website for my company at the moment, and one of the things I wanted to do to add some extra perosonality to the company was put up BIO's of some of the more interesting employees--however upper management shut it down saying that the only thing the BIO's would be used for is headhunters that wanted to take their employee's away. Interesting perspective, ya?
I think its kinda extreme to claim that corporations are going to chop up the ENTIRE english language--honestly how much do you use the entire phrase OpenGL without referring to OpenGL, granted I agree that going after sites using 'open' or 'GL' not as a phrase is simply crazy, but assuming that trademarks continue to be assigned to phrases or conglomerations of words rather than single words, I don't think we are in any danger of running out of words that can be safely said without risking the TM nazi's appearing magically at your door.
also, i read somewhere that MIR was slowly being eaten by fungus that manages to survive in space (i suppose if you have earth like conditions for the crew the fungus will happily live there too) so it probably WOULDN'T be around for future generations even if you did use the fuel to send it out there.
I don't think the government could get away with listing any sort of religion as 'false information'--because if they do, they can be accused of religious persecution.
As a digital artist, as well as paper (of varying types) I do not agree with this... I believe ART is only applicable to standard forms of 2d and 3d expression, while a piece of code can definitely be elegant, it is not a work of art in the conventional sense of the word. For someone that hates math as much as I do, (yet i am in engineering school, go figure) it should not be a bit surprise that I feel this way. However, I do not believe that this is art (which doesn't make me respect it any less--please don't get me wrong on this score--I respect an amazing piece of code as much as the next CompE) it just doesn't fit into my definition of art...
to take a somewhat more sticky example--that of a raytracer program or something along those lines--I still don't believe that the program itself is art, simply the end result of that program's execution is art--the cool looking transfuse balls or whatever the programmer came up with.
At my school we have a unix cluster of several machines that is available to the general public--staff and students, however one machine is just for the staff--in this situation you could have a paid 'professional' admin for the staff section, while the students side could be handled by students--therefore no conflict of interest (at least not as big of one)
or if you dont feel like buring them out you can just put a nice layer of tinfoil over your whole house (presumably on the inside) to create a faraday cage... I am sure someone who knows more about E&M than I do can come up with a better/cheaper solution--or maybe even poke fun of my solution...
it wouldn't surprise me if this becomes more of an online physical manifestation in the future--something like the metaverse where you have an avatar--and a credit rating to go with it--its also a lot like idoru where you can figure out a LOT about a person based on their computer records...
it would be amusing if you had to like insert some small packets of food resembling Smartmedia cards into your device every couple of weeks... heh. In the middle of a counterstrike game your LCD goes out, so you blindly type "AFK gotta feed my LCD"
i bet they are modding you down because you are a girl... heh... honestly... either that or they work at your company and are all pissed that you called them 'bitter'--i wonder if 'BITTER OLD MEN' would be more fitting?
I went and checked out that subscription page, and I was woefully unimpressed by the music choices that they offer... I am a big fan of heavy metal (yeah yeah, insert all the comments about it being dead/noise/crap--I will happily ignore them) and I was unhappy to see that the closest I could come was 'other'... granted this little survey thingy is just for the marketers, but like--if they dont list it on there, and they are indeed buying their content from RIAA, then its going to suck massively for me--because the only music i really care about wont be well supported--if it is supported at all.
Is it just me, or does anyone else find the 'president of oral happiness' extremely amusing... I am fairly certain I am glad we don't have a position like that at my company... heh.
I love that movie... life would be so much more interesting if we were all mel brooks. In a true anarchy people that tried to stop people like me from speeding would be shot with my L96-A1. Enjoy it while it lasts.
hate to tell ya, but drunks are just as deadly regardless of mandatory speed limits... Example--Highway driving--two cars head on at 55mph is not a happy sight to behold.
Also, what if you need to get somewhere in a hurry? You are trying to tell me that you have never been in a hurry your entire life?
my question is: in a situation like this, where pretty much everyone (IMHO) is against something like this--how can they find engineers to design something like that? Is everyone so immoral that they will sell out the freedom of a country for a decent sum of cash?
this is going to sound kinda silly, but--why can't a group of people form a non for profit organization and put pattents on common things like this, so that some MORON in a marketing office (hey, i work in a marketing office so dont be offended if you do too) can bring up the patent idea to his boss and get it approved... I am rather sick of these DUMB patents on stuff like this... Hell my windows CE device has an XML based interface--and that thing has been out for like 2 years (yeah, i need to get a newer one--maybe go palm this time)
IMHO, the real question is not if the scientists are competent to be the judge of society's maturity about a technology such as this, but if SOCIETY is competent to judge its own maturity to handle something like this... Personally I don't even think we are READY to judge our own maturity about this subject, much less make judgements about who we should be cloning or not cloning... isn't life support bad enough?!?!
boy would a paper computer put intel out of business... OMG MY LAPTOP IS ON FIRE AGAIN... DAMN PENTIUM V's run too hot!
also, it would screw the overclockers... trying to water cool a paper laptop... burhahaha OH NO WE SPRUNG A LEAK!!!
Fucking open source music??? section Z
