My local paper http://eagletribune.com/ only gives full access to the on line edition if you subscribe to the dead tree edition.

I assume this is because circulation ($) is based entirely on number of hard copies delivered.

I don't mind paying full price for the electronic edition but I don't have the patience to deal with some kid that only shows up on collection day expecting to be paid for papers that were never delivered.

Have not subscribed to a paper in over ten years. On line is the only way to go for me.

...and use the settings you used last time you were using the toaster...
That would be even more useful with showers...

This brings up an important safety tip; never use a toaster in the shower.

But I think the real answer is voice recognition.
That way you can tell the toaster to make it dark or light or "do the best you can in 45 seconds, I'm late for work".
Same thing with the shower; hotter, cooler, less water, more water, off while I lather my hair, back on to rinse, etc...

Or as a great fictional character was known to say to an equally fictional computer: "Tea. Earl Gray. Hot."

    From TFA;

Castera also wonders if Riya might be useful for paternity tests.

"I submitted some photos of a little boy and others of his father -- who is my best friend -- and Riya found the resemblance," said Castera, a French industrial designer. "It's very touching."

Trusting some unknown face recognition software to do "paternity tests" is a little out there.
Isn't that how paternity was determined back in old days? ("'E's the spitting image of the Duke 'e is.")

Give it to solders and if it doesn't work; oh well - we tried.
Sell it to the public and it doesn't work; "You owe me $1M for each tooth that fell out!"

Seriously, most stuff designed for the military eventually makes it into the consumer market. Just a matter of time.

Good point on Windows(tm) but this is Tom's Hardware after all.

I would expect the case, and as others have mentioned kb, mouse, joystick, monitor, etc. to be included. The system is not much use without that stuff.

Not being a "gamer" I don't know which is the bigger cost of gaming; hardware or software. Is there any point on saving a few bucks on the hardware? The total $ for games must add up (unless you are hoisting the Jolly Roger;-).

If there are no "transmitters and receivers" that would match my definition of "unused".

    From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_fiber
"Dark fibre or unlit fibre (or fiber) is the name given to fibre optic cables which have yet to be used. They are hence not yet connected to any device, and are only there for future usage."

Yes, Disney does seem to think that animated equals musical.
This is one of the things that is wrong (IMHO) with American (movie) animation.
My other pet peeve is using famous movie/TV actors for the voice talent. It's like it was done just to get another few more percent at the box office rather than to enhance the story.
Then again when I watch anime it's alang=jp and slang=en.

Still, I'm pissed off enough to never buy Matrox again!
Yes, the same thing could happen with Nvidia or ATI or any other binary driver. The next kernel build may break something and we are at the mercy of the corporation to fix it.
This is what makes XGI and VIA more attractive. Once a driver is open it can never go back to being closed.

This is good news. I will be giving XGI and VIA priority on my next hardware purchase.
Got burned by Matrox (triple head card) when they dropped Linux support after kernel 2.6 came out. They now point you to a third party where you can pay ~US$200 for what Matrox provides to windows users for free.
Currently using Nvidia. Not open but it works and is easy to install.
