Go ahead and tell me that its easier to learn Windows XP (or Vista) than it is to learn Hardy Heron. Sit someone who has never used a computer down in front of a fresh Windows install and see how well that goes.
Good luck!
"because all their little non-work toy programs won't work on it"
don't you pay people to do their work at your company? who cares if their little toy programs for XP are gone, besides, there are lots of little toy programs for linux. And your back up admin can't do a few simple admin tasks on debian?? Hire one that would be comfortable.
Seems to me that Sun are being a bit more savvy in the way they are doing things. First OpenOffice and mysql, now they seem to be partnering up with Canonical (Ubuntu).
call me what you will, I'll never trust M$ again.
I learned linux after a very brief period with Windows XP. It just keeps getting better for me. I've had to use Mac a fair bit too as both my parents now have one and my gf has one and I frequently use it too. But I have to say, as far as desktop customization and usability in my experience, OS X can't touch Gnome and Ubuntu.
no its true I've had mucho problems connecting to ftp from OS X. Type ftp://... in Safari it opens the connection and puts the ftp as a link on the desktop that you can click, but it won't seem to write to, only read from.
I personally use opensbd(I like its simplicity in many aspects) for ftp and httpd, but tend to stick to linux for desktop.
Even tho you got modded troll I want to ask you your reasons for thinking OpenBSD is better.
Ok, he says it's no good because you can't install Windows or OS X apps on it. STUPID.
And look at all the sad little Microshaft fanboys on Slashdot defending the review. tsk, tsk.
Hey Nigeria, how's it feel to get raped?
If you wanted to use windows so bad, you should have just gone here:
http://playonlineflashgames.net/game/3607/Windows-RG.html
(probably the only recent version that will run reasonably well on those machines)
yup, yet another insignificant distro took some bucks to be the latest FUD. Well done M$FT, I'm so scared that I'm formatting my drive right now to reinstall XP./sarcasm
Wake me up if a real distro like Red Hat Debian or Slackware SELL OUT, at which point I will simply start using OpenBSD on my desktop in addition to my server. This is FUD FUD FUD FUD FUD!
OK, we all know the new release of Ubuntu comes with Beryl(and all kinds of virtual desktop features) included...interesting that this lawsuit came out now, 6 days ahead of the next Ubuntu release.
Time to start thinking of ways to better themselves is what they should be doing, rather than looking for more tactics to rip off the honest, hard working taxpayers of Canada. Message to the politicians in Ottawa: you don't do anyone a service by spoonfeeding them when they don't need it. This country is going to be in a lot of trouble in another 20 or 30 years. Shrinking middle-class, anyone?
"But Linux... it's just a pain in the ass."
It's not for everyone. neither is Windows, neither is MAC. I have used linux for years, and agreed at times it takes some extra reading and searching to find a solution to a problem, the outcome is usually rewarding.
Also, I'm curious to know what kind of scale you can have a GPA of 4.93 in; typically (here in North America) a GPA of 4.00 is 100%, AFAIK.

Slax on a 2 GB USB pendrive? if you HAVE to use Windows then you're doomed, cut and paste or no cut and paste.
because its not that easy to engineer something that doubles for a transport vehicle AND component of a space station. Although that would be cool.

The article mentioned that Gates wasn't clear on whether it was an official release or just an rc or a beta version for developers.
sorry, but OS X isn't UNIX.

"efficienter" -- no such word.
With the new Leopard 10.5 X11 is just installed outta the box isn't it?

Yeah but a middle click in X is GENIUS in its usefullness. Who can resist the middle click cut and paste???

Regardless, good whisky.
