...they just make one they believe sells best
No they do not... 90% af their Windows sales are bundled (PC + OS) sales... they do not need to make the best product because they know it will be sold anyway and that is the whole problem with Microsoft. We (consumers) need a law that would protect us from those bundled sales because we are powerless against them... PC + Windows is cheaper than the same PC without Windows...
"...new networking & audio stacks" Those splendid new stacks include DRM and Trusted Computing... I just think I keep my Linux...
We don't think Vista is Aqua... there was no DRM or Trusted Computing on Aqua...

I prefere to decide for myself what and whom I want to trust... and if I want or do not want to obey the law... that's a part of what I understand as FREEDOM !!
Yes, we do have a choice: don't use the product, it may not be an option here & now but you've got a choice. I don't think that any software manufacturer would use an EULA that could be invalidated by a court order, it is simply to dangerous.
I'll suggest you read the EULA... they claim that they are not responsible for whatever may happen to you, your data or other work while you are using their software... It would be worlds shortest lawsuit: "Did the plaintiff read the EULA ? yes ? why are we then wasting the courts time ?" and it is no better if the answer is "no", since you are not allowed to use the software without reading and accepting the EULA.
I don't know about Symantec but McAfee with engine 4.4.0.0 and virus definitions 4661 should. I am a very happy McAfee customer, no viruses since 1998. ,,,or you can do what I did a year ago... kick M$ out and use Linux or Mac...
I will happily pay $300 for one of those but ONLY if the diff. is going DIRECTLY to either the project itself or UNICEF. I will NOT buy it from the manufacturer for anything more than $125.
A consistant user interface is all I ask. IS IT THAT HARD?!?! That seems like something I've recently seen in a discussion about how bad and inconsistent Linux GUI's are...
"1) Never heard of Linux eh?" Yes I have, I am using it on my current laptop... Have you tried to buy a laptop without an OS ? 2) Yes, Sun does make a laptop Excellent, thx. I am looking for a new laptop... maybe it is a good alternative.
Why not ? I prefere to put my $$$ in Apple's pocket than in M$ and the only way I can be sure that none of my money ends in M$ pocket is to buy a PowerBook... ...or does SUN make SPARC laptops ??
You mean like a big US software corporation which are sneaking their below average products on any bloody PC I buy ? ...and wich is yelling out that a free (as in beer) and far superior product is more expensive than their product ?

Not yet...Cyberdyne Systems Corp. has however recently announced that the T-800 version will be able to find anybody anywhere, the T-800 is a part of the SkyNet defense system.
I am not quite sure what you try to say, but... NO NO NO, GRAMMA AND JOE SIXPACK NEED NO HELP INSTALLING LINUX! THEY"RE FINE ON THEIR OWN! Neither do they know how to install Windows... If they knew, there wouldn't be all those zombie Windows PC's out there... and pls. don't give me that shit about "place CD in CD drive and reboot", Linux does even that part better than Windows these days...

You don't need Ctrl+Alt+Del if you don't run Windows...
2: Protection against terrorism. This can't be done, it has been tried in 30% - 50% of the world without success and don't think that because it is in the US of A you can do it unless you intend to live in something like the good old USSR... and even then you are not 100% safe.
England
Germany (West Germany)
France
Spain
Italy
Israel
Greece
are all "civilized" western countries that have or have had problems with local terrorism in the last 50 years.
Funny you mention this... usually the goal for a good GUI design is increasing user productivity. Any other GUI (and even some 'non G' UI's) are better in that than Windows. the majority of the users out there are used to the MS designed way of doing things Aha... I didn't know that... especially because I've just migrated my company from W2K to WXP... and from Office 2000 to Office 2003... and my useres can't work because "it does not look (and work) like it used to" (and pls. don't give me that crap about "you can make it look allmost like W2K" for I can also make Gnome or KDE look allmost like W2K or WXP), the truth is that I could have migrated to Mac OS X or Linux and they would have had as many problems as they've got now. Yes, my users may be computer-morons but 80% of all users are like that and that is one of the problems good GUI design should handle.

I have the possibility of choosing my GUI freely... so I have choosen KDE.
Could IBM please install this gimmick on some of their xSeries servers... they could then be sold as "the xSeries for Linux, with cool touch display". ...and now we are talking IBM and Linux: We still need a Lotus Notes Client for Linux, pls!! Yes, I know it runs fine on wine... and so do I but my wife prefere me in sober condition.
Excuse me, but I assume from your comment that you think a TI 99/4A is a calculator... it is not, it is in fact one of the first (if not the first) 16-bit home computers. We are back in the Sinclair ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64 days and it is before Commodore Amiga and Atari ST. Some specs can be found here TI 99/4A
