Russian railroads cover two continents (Europe and Asia) so they are intercontinental. You can travel from Moscow in Europe to Vladivostok or Beijing in Asia, the trip takes a week. Look here for further info: Trans-Siberian Railway
Denmark is very Microsoft oriented, our former prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen even visited Steve Ballmer in Redmond. A move away from Microsoft product is very hard, the usual management argument is either: "Worlds biggest software company surely must have the best product!" or "Worlds most sold Office package must be best!" combined with the fact that nearly every business uses either Dynamics AXA or Dynamics NAV (or some former versions of those two) makes any changes next to impossible. This is btw. second big move away from MS Office in the health sector, "Region Midtjylland" did this a couple of years ago. Several municipalities has also moved either everything or just the education.
Running on old telephone cables is a very bad idea, you may put a lot of hardware to compensate for the cabling but the right solution is to rewire to CAT6. The WiFi solution should be something like a Zyxel NXC5200 and NWA5160N or the older Zyxel NXC8160 and NWA8500 or a similar Cisco solution (which will cost you at least 50% more). The NXC provides a central management point, firewall and a captive portal, NXC communicates with its NWA's over Ethernet.
Do not take the gig if they insist on running on old cabling, if you do prepare for serious trouble.
Second: there is a/. Sensation Prevention Section where he explains that NUL-terminated strings was the correct choice at the time, it just caused some unforeseen consequences.
Use OpenSuSE, everything in OpenSuSE can be done thru the GUI: installation, configuration, administration, software maintenance... everything.
Don't use the command line when it is easier for you, it will be interpreted as missing GUI functionality.
They use small cheap netbooks as thin clients because orders are processed instantly instead after they are back in the office. Fast and reliable. Connection issues are not thin client issues, they should be treated and fixed as any other connection issues. There are some few very remote areas in Alaska, Australia, Canada and South America where a fat client may be a better solution.
...if they provide me with a code or utility to disable hyperthreading. Hyperthreading is killing my VM hosts and new servers do not have the "Disable Hyperthreading" in BIOS.
...plus presumably £650 for Oracle Enterprise Database Server...
I would like to know where you are buying your Oracle licenses 'cause I'm paying something like £20000 anually for my Enterprise license (for a quad core, single socket server)
...any benefits of Seven. (Bar 64-bit support, but for business use that's largely irrelevant)...
I don't know why anyone have any real use of 64 bit at home, big business on the other hand do need it for
financial applications
film editing
special effects
CAD/CAM
simulations
en/decryption
any other big number crunching
...and government institutions, like IRS (who needed an Mac to calculate Bill Gates tax), DoD (for any of those above), DoT, DHS, DoE and probably Department of the Treasury.
"Apple only has one product line while Nokia has many, many different phones..."
Yes, but Apples is a very good "One size fits All" product. Almost everyone, from 4 years old children thru teenagers to business(wo)men and IT-pros, can and will use an iPhone. Nokia has many products but every product fits only a small segment of users.
Only few rugged products from Nokia (and Ericsson) are really without competition from the iPhone... and only because those products are watertight. Android phones are much like iPhone and share the same success.
If we look how patent pools have been used recently, we can conclude that they are used in the "pay or we sue" way often without disclosure of the patent. A lawsuit is costly and bad for PR so companies are just paying instead of fighting the patent troll. If Jobs can use h264 instead of Theora without the risk of being sued he will choose the safe choice.
I've got an UMTS WiFi router in my car for almost 2 years now. I'm using an Ericsson W21 because it runs on 12V and got external antenna connector (for the UMTS antenna). Why ? Well, if you got several devices needing Internet connection in your car then a router is far better solution than separate UMTS modems (and far cheaper). I've got an on board PC (running Linux) which I use to listen to music and news from the Internet and to talk over TeamSpeak and Skype. The kids can surf the net from their laptops from the backseat and my wife can even play WoW from her laptop and I can work while she is driving the car. Do you still think you can live without a mobile hotspot in Your car ?
XP is still out there, quite a lot of it
Almost everyone got a console beside the PC some got several different consoles
Windows is loosing terrain and Microsoft is loosing importance
Apple OS X i gaining terrain quite qickly and whoever catches that wave will be the next billionaire
Software support is expensive on Windows, your customers are calling you when Windows throws an error at them
You need high end, expensive display adapter if you want good quality and performance out of DirectX, you will pay less for a console and may get better quality and performance and it will be on a bigger screen
Googles Android and Intels & Nokias MeeGo will grow, both platforms got big companies behind them and OpenSolaris may also become an interesting target
ACTA violates constitution in almost all free, democratic countries.
ACTA would fit nicely in the former Soviet Union, German Democratic Republic, North Korea or Peoples Republic of China.
Politicians accepting ACTA do not represent neither freedom nor democracy, they are totalitarians in need of control of the population.
I was also against their buying Compaq to begin with.
That wasn't buying, that was a marriage.
They made the recovery discs. I don't know any normal user who did that on their new PC... and I know many users who missed those discs.

phone calls? In this economy the threat of OSS is even greater for Microsoft so I would think the Microsoft MiB will be showing up on their doorstep.
LoB
Microsoft has already officially said (regarding this specific case) that their pricing policy is fair and they do not plan to make any changes.
Actually, we're also putting LibreOffice on all public machines in Copenhagen.....
Who are we ? RH or KK ?

"Incorrect. Lion does indeed include the most awesome GUI administration tool in existence.
It's called Terminal."
Even quite hardcore UNIX guys will get a very funny look on their face when you tell them to use the Terminal as an admin tool on OS X.
Been there, tried that... got the response: "It's an Apple, I will NOT use a Terminal on an Apple... there must be a fancy GUI somwhere".

OpenSuSE 11.2 on the desktop, Windows dependent applications runs on Citrix. Nobody is complaining.

I have stopped to believe in any news from Microsoft until I see the product and even then it usually is only partially what they say it is.

I belive that the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 was warm, fluffy and safe compared to the possibility of Bill Gates making a nuclear reactor.
