Actually it will, the AOL/Netscape/RealPlayer/Shockwave client which was announced at E3 this year (that's what most photos are showing) is running Linux on the harddrive and will come out this fall.
One of the most common ways nowadays is to enter a company thru QA.
Testing games usually leads to position in game design or producer positions.
I've seen programmers come out of QA but that's pretty rare.
Be ready to work A LOT, game testing is one of the most thankless job I know.
If by 'game design' you mean programming then your best bet is to start working on some demos on PC. The more you can show the better chance you have at landing a junior programmer position.
I got my break in the industry because I used to spend my time writing demos for the Amiga back in Europe.
On a related note, with pinstripe a lot of things (the updater comes to mind and the sawfish theme panel in CC) in Helix-Gnome would fail because of dependency issues with the new libraries.
I know this is probably more of an Helix issue but does anyone know if this is resolved?
>...This is similar in concept to EMPEG's units, except a lot cooler...
What makes it so much cooler? Care to elaborate?
Empeg MK2 will be available this summer and to be fair most of the price for the unit goes toward the cost of the hard drives not the unit itself.
And BTW every indication seem to point toward the fact that the empeg guys are already working with auto manufacturers to produce ready-installed systems for some cars.
It doesn't give you direct access to the system because a multi-user OS is running on it.
And also because a lot of thing like DMA transfers require contiguous memory which the OS can't guarantee you when do a malloc.
Projects like SPS2 allow you to get pretty close to full hardware access.
Again, the hardware register issue is not Sony crippling the system, just a result of having a multi-user OS run on it.
Sony does prevent (try to) you from using the IOP which limits you from accessing the CD drive/memory cards/etc... but not the EE/VUs or GS
Sorry but you must have bought the wrong kit...
The only thing PS2 Linux prevents you from accessing is the IOP which is NOT the majority of the PS2's features.
Even the diffences imposed by having a multi-user OS running on the machine are being dealt with by projects like SPS2.
You should check your facts before posting stuff like that.

Interesting.
I'm not sure about @home in general but it seems like cox@home does.

I get on average 4/5 break-in attempts an evening and I'm using cox@home.
Norton Internet Security detects mostly some trojan attacks but also sometime some inbound connections on 80 or 21.
So far a very small percentage of these came from within @home's network (I know they probe themselves to catch people running servers).
