I have the same setup as you and can tell you there is a hassle. The cablecard Verizon Fios installed on my Tivo Premiere has one way communication. That means if I want any of the On Demand services I have to also keep my regular Verizon cable box (and pay the monthly rental fee). On Demand is an important part of the service as there are a ton of free movies and free replays of network and cable TV shows. Not all of this content is matched by the services on the Tivo alone.
This has nothing to do with the cablecard. Cablecards are decryption devices, period. All current host devices are one-way communications devices. There have been a few stabs at changing that but so far nothing has clicked and there isn't a standard communications mechanism for doing so. The closest anyone got was Tru2way but that didn't really pan out.
Point being, the card is not the reason for this situation.
SimpleSound (for quick and dirty sound recordings)
I've found Audio Recorder to be a very nice little app. I keep it in my dock when playing with my acoustic. When the urge to record pops up, it's two clicks away. Allows multiple-format saving, etc.
all i would like to say is that i'm _quite_ happy to be related (even if by blood only) to doug englebart.. he's done quite a bit to further user and interface fluidity.
a. this program is open source, something as trivial as that could easily be fixed.. why don't you fix it? submitting a patch with an option would be a great idea...
b. i'm betting that the problem is with gtk's file dialog boxes, not xmms specifically.. so poke around where you should be.
i agree completely. it would be nice if the slashnet link off the main page pointed to the correct location. otherwise there's no real point in having that link, ya know?
as lovely as this is going to be, the majority of personal linux users (and a large chunk of slashdotters) are people that have began to expect everything for linux to be free. do you really think id software is going to make money off this from the linux crowd? if not, it could sway them away.
as an op in efnet #emu (as you know) we STRIVE against rom trading, rom site announcements, etc. in our channel. we are this way, and have been this way for as long back as i can remember, because way back (vsmc96's 2nd version i believe), we saw the first craziness of people trying to obtain final fantasy III (which was the new game that suddenly worked, due to The_Brain's figuring out of absolute HDMA - tangent). anyway, at that point, focuses started changing, as well as the popularity which began to increase.
the release of this past emulator made me laugh out loud, because this is going (and is already) to create more chaos than anyone expected (not only in #emu, but in this so-called "scene" of ours). if this gets all the weenie warez-y type people out of here, we could move back down to an underground style yet once again.
Enlightenment is not the only gnome-compliant window manager these days... currently, enlightenment, icewm, windowmaker (sorta), and scwm(i think?) are...with more to follow.:)

Young kids these days and their rock music... Deaf at such an early age.
excuse me?
Try BoC's actual label's store. MP3 files for purchase.
He's wrong. Quartz Extreme works on iBook G3 800's. I have one. It has a radeon 7500, which is supported by this acceleration.

Actually, AMD 760-based boards have been available in upwards of a month already.
The 760MP boards are what you're reading about just coming out now, in beta, etc. I've had my EPOX 8K7A board for a few weeks now already.

let it be known, that since mesa 3.1 beta 3, it installs itself as libGL and libGLU, not libMesaGL and libMesaGLU anymore.

why do you care so much? geez, if you don't like the content, don't read the site.
/me can't imagine someone spending all the time to write that in the first place.
get a clue.
jeez, if you don't like the articles posted, then don't read the site.
or use the user preferences to filter out stories you don't like..
is it really worth the time to write out a comment speaking your displeasure, as opposed to just moving on to another article, or website?
get a clue, or run your own website (i can't wait to criticize it.)

a good place to start is to look on ebay, inside the computers/terminals section.

the site formerly known as linuxhq would do you fine.
the site address is www.kernelnotes.org

not to be a pain in the ass, but shouldn't the logo up be the GNUstep one?

unfortunately, this article requires a subscription.
Does anyone have a url of a version of this which is freely viewed?
