  1. Flash Games on Great Games To Put On a Free PC? · · Score: 1

I'd suggest you make shortcuts on their desktops (or put them inside a folder "Games") that are just browser bookmarks to various good online flash games. Here's some that I think are fun: http://www.i-am-bored.com/bored_link.cfm?link_id=17727 http://www.kongregate.com/games/preecep/desktop-tower-defense-1-5 http://www.fugly.com/flash/819/flash-tetris.html http://www.runescape.com/ http://www.thegamehomepage.com/play/tangerine-panic/ I suppose another option may be SNES emulators and whatever if you can find legit free roms for them. Good luck

  3. So annoying on When Teachers Are Obstacles To Linux In Education · · Score: 1

Ugh, sad attitude. How does one reason with a fool without becoming a fool themselves? She obvious likes to judge things on a snap. Maybe that was just a day/week for her ;)

  4. It's a call for a universal UI, or severe beatings on Netbook Return Rates Much Higher For Linux Than Windows · · Score: 1

Perhaps this is just a cry for some kind of standard GUI across all OSes - you know a kind of universal interface. Sounds like a long way off, but if UI innovation stagnates sufficiently, I think it's only a matter of time. Just annoying how many people will buy car B over car A just because car B has one more cup holder. Doesn't matter if car A can fly, cure disease and fight off alien invaders. Sigh.

  5. It's just a fad, a foolish one on IOC Trademarks Part of Canadian National Anthem · · Score: 1

This feels extremely similar to MS's recently awarded patent for Page Up/Page Down keys. I'm sure this sort of opportunistic greed will end as a fad. We just need the first related case to hit a high enough court. Silly move by the IOC, but what'll be vastly more interesting is the laughing stock that could come out of this sort of thinking.

  6. Totally stupid on eBay'er Arrested For Attempting To Sell His Vote · · Score: 1

I think those prosecutors need a good generous slapping. "Fundamentally, we believe it is wrong to sell your vote" - That doesn't sound like anything close to resembling a legal argument justifying their response. I believe that many religious prey on people's fear and that doing so is cowardice and undesireable. Does that warrant me or anyone else to take them to court on those grounds? I hope it doesn't. Maybe this is a new precedent for the US. Afterall, their recent wars seem to suggest there is a major trend towards the whole country justifying whatever actions with "we believe". How about we try something else, like, "I know that..". Hope that kid gets off with nothing more than emotional damage from such a ridiculous over-reaction.

  8. Crazy Research on What Shall We Do With the Moon Once We Get There? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I think the moon *may provide a fantastic environment for rather bizarre and potentially dangerous physics research projects. Maybe the moon would be a great place to conduct more extended matter/anti-matter research along with various other potentially hazardous physics research surrounding faster than light travel. And perhaps the lower gravity enviornment could have other benefits for a multitude of other applications - perhaps even general manufacturing of gigantic space vessels - which would be easier to launch from the moon than the surface of earth. I say we just make an army of robots to go do all the actual work while we sit back here controlling it all from a beach. It also is a great place to put a whole bunch of Tim Horton's stores. Mmmmm.. Ice Caps!

  9. Re:Old news on Engineers Make Good Terrorists? · · Score: 1

Awesome, sounds like we're well off to the neo Spanish Inquisition. OHh no! I must be a witch! I'm an engineer! (*sarcasm aside*) while I can appreciate there may be some validity to this claim, I can't deny its remarkable abundance of stupidity. Though it does serve as comedic relief, at least to some degree.

  10. Whatever on Proposed Amendment Would Ban All DVD Copying · · Score: 1

If they do this, it'll just make more of a market for other technologies that enable users to get the same functionality. They can go ahead with this amendment if they like, but the resources being wasted on this exercise should be spent on third world aid or something that'll make a difference.

  11. Wow, completely lame on Internet Curfew for College Students? · · Score: 1

What right do they have to judge their students like that? As a Comp Sci I've found a large culture in my circles around being awake during the evening and sleeping more throughout the day. If I were a student there I'd either being transferring to a place that respected my right to access the internet OR I would work with my fellow students to build my own solution based around someone sharing their own private connection. Hell I'd figure with enough pissed off students maybe you'd be able to find a local wireless ISP that'd work out for ya. The only way this is cool is that it forces students to find their own solution. Unless the students at this school are too lame to deal with it. But yeah, otherwise that's sort of a real deal-breaker. Maybe they don't want people living in residence

  12. So true on Video Racing Games May Spur Risky Driving · · Score: 1
