USB Drives are either disabled completely or only allow certain trusted devices to be used by them at my work. (aerospace defense) If I do manage to get Firefox installed on my workstation, I can't access the web from it because of simple firewall/proxy filtering.
Anyways, I need IE to access various dashboards and portlets in our Intranet that rely on IE. Sucks, but with 300 people working in "IT", I can't do anything about it.
Chances are, the windows pirate who knows nothing about his system had somebody, who did know what they were doing, install it for them as an upgrade from 98, Me, or 2000.
Ticketmaster does that because it can make a lot more money that way. People don't always buy tickets weeks or months in advance. Some people buy the night before or the same day, and can't wait for tickets to arrive by mail.
Some people need to receive their tax refunds sooner than others... So they'd rather pay a little bit more to file electronically and receive it 2-3 weeks earlier.
Most atm machines I've used actually take your card (for shredding) if you have 5 invalid attempts. I had it happen to me when I typed in the wrong PIN (confused with another card) and the machine didn't give it back to me..
I work for a defense contractor (aerospace) and password complexity depends on the system it's applied too. Some systems, like older mainframes need a security exception because they were not designed to meet complexity requirements. Others however, like simple workstations need only be a minimum of 8 alphanumeric characters and changed every 90 days. Some ID's, like service and generic utility IDs need to be 16 characters, (alphanumeric mixed case and sepcial characters) and changed every 120 days. Again, it all depends on the system the ID/password is for. Obviously a workstation that accesses TS/SCI material will require stricter password complexity requirements than a workstation that creates company wide information...
in your situation though, you're security admin is crazy.
Supposedly for easy access to it anywhere with an internet connection. If they were targeting business users (largest market here) I would think that's why domains and group drives were created... for easy sharing
Somehow, I doubt Sear's future looks gloomy.... In fact, they look great with positive earnings and positive growth. Just because you don't shop at Sear's doesn't mean the company is doing poorly.
Having two jobs + saving != being able to retire early. You need a steady income during your retirement (bonds, stocks, mutual funds) to cover any expected and unexpected expenditures you encounter. There are scenarios where you can early at 55, and run out of money when you're 75, but work 3 years more till you're 58 and have enough money to you die.
Again, you're better off asking your financial advisor and consulting with you're family than asking the./ crowd.
See my earlier post in this thread.. By datamining myspace, the NSA can spot terrorist type acts (school shootings, bomb scares, etc) and child molesters before it happens. There have been numerous news stories of police and/or school authorities finding out about a potential threat like a planned school shooting and taking action before the harm is done.
It's about time they do it. It should help decrease real, potential threats like school shootings and child molesters.
How many times have you heard myspace on the news in a negative way? (except for "on the money", where they talk about how much it's worth) I don't mind it (NSA doing the datamining), being that you voluntarily post your information.

Me = sad panda:(
Various business units at the company I work for uses EMC Documentum for document management and version control. It may be overkill in feature and price for your application though, but for anyone who's interested.
The only thing keeping me from going 100% Linux, is moneycentral.msn.com (their stock charts are great! I only wish they didn't use activex for them) and Outlook. I haven't found a good competitor to Outlook available for Linux, and this is the most important to me. I have too much invested in Outlook from school and work to just dump it and use 5 other programs to do the same thing.
Learn about different interest areas and use them to your advantage. You do not always need to know the inner-workings of something to use it effectively, saving you time and money.

Want change? Promote the person hindering it to a higher position in a different area. Works in more industries than you would imagine.

If this is true, excellent opportunity for me to switch to a better service and avoid the $200 rape
how about http://google.com/trends?q=Ubuntu%2C+Fedora&ctab=0 &geo=all&date=all
= 0&geo=all&date=all
b untu&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all
or the real players in this game, http://google.com/trends?q=Red+Hat%2C+Novell&ctab
or even better, http://google.com/trends?q=redhat%2C+red+hat%2C+u
add Red Hat and Redhat against Ubuntu, and it's not so bad.
Profit? Something more important and worth gold to wall streeters is GROWTH!

tell that to the people who live in the projects who drive escalades on 20's
I know it's meant for children, but damn that thing screams Fisher-Price ugliness!
Someone went to their house and videotaped the experience already...

download Foxit PDF Reader http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php
It's much faster than Adobe Reader at opening a PDF file and being a self-executable, requires no installation

I will be giving Dapper Drake a run on my Thinkpad soon, replacing Slackware. If Evolution will meet my needs, consider me switched.

But the thing is, Wal-Mart is a company, and a company can be considered a person.
