Well, perhaps you didn't hear the recent story of the failed suicide bombing.

It turns out that the "suicide bomber" was in fact TRICKED into getting into a truck laden with explosives and sent in to "die for the cause" so it may in fact be the case that those kinds of suicide bombers are rarer than we think. Many suicide bombers are using cars and trucks as their method of delivery. That means that your homemade bomb that might kill a person or two is not thte kind of bomb they use, not anymore.

While you may be impressed with the way you were able to justify the paranoia of these security guys, you are NOT helping the situation by increasing the terror alert level AFTER she has been proven innocent.

And she has been proven innocent.
Any further attempt to humiliate or insult or harass or attack her is only a violation of her civil rights.

    1) It's wrong
    2) It costs them a lot of money in lost sales and ends up crippling them economically, leading to all sorts of bad stuff, like a large national brand swooping in, changing the store policies, and making a fortune.

This is why I stay away from certain areas of the mall.

And more importantly, what will happen when someone yells "Security! This man is assaulting people with aerosol spray!" and the airport undergoes lockdown?

Or more feasibly, what happens when the terrorists use the aerosol as an opportunity to walk around the airport spraying people's hands, infecting them with SARS or some other horrifying disease?

Seriously, these people need to find an alternative way of doing this. it opens up too many scary options for abuse.

I was originally hesitant to believe that linux made that big a difference, but it might work that way for mine. It has a fingerprint scanner, which worked nicely at first with vista installed, but I got so frustrated with Vista I tried installing xp - just to remember about that annoying "you have 30 days to register xp before it can no longer work" bit.

I installed fedora on it, and much to my surprise, suddenly my computer asked for my fingerprint BEFORE giving me the opportunity to change the BIOS settings. I was impressed. Now, not only do you have to have my fingerprint (or accompanying password) to get into my computer, but if you take longer than 10 seconds to do so, the computer beeps LOUDLY for a long time before shutting down.

I'd consider the data very secure. the most a common thief could do is say that he stole it, it's little more than a brick to him. For a more sophisticated hacker thief, I could at least consider my data reasonably secure. it shouldn't be hard for the police to track down the stolen laptop before they could remove the hard drive and apply vicious hardware hacking utilities to get to the data enclosed. At least I hope so.

I'd at least make it look like I was rich enough to reward the police if they can track down the stolen laptop in time. And if I couldn't pay them, I'd at least offer them some real security advice that they'd find a lot more valuable than a cash reward.

Perhaps I've thought things through a bit too far ahead. But you can never be too paranoid until it's too late.
