  1. Apple Poopy Video Quality For Walmart on Apple iTunes Upsampling Higher Resolution Videos? · · Score: 0

According to Cringley - Apple has to keep video quality POOPY to please Walmart. According to Streaming.com 2006 video transcoding study, Apple's video is POOPY to begin with - in comparison to Real.

So we get POOPY on top of POOPY. Quite a dog pile!

Okay Apple/Jobs/Quicktime lemming apologists - let's hear it!? And Gates's Apple smashers - don't start yet. The Streaming.com study mentioned above - stated that Micro$oft's WindowsMedia video sucked even more than Apple's H.264 and that folks interested in video needed to forget about Micro$oft.

But of course some "fat little girl" could come out of a garage somehwere and dominate the whole scene. Be intertesting to see what happens over next 5 years.

And it looks like Apple's Quicktime lemmings are revolting and refuse to be lemmings anymore. Apparently Quicktime 7.1.3 retooling stops the average user from seeing Flash/Quicktime stuff

Seems like Apple/Jobs focus is on selling video online using iTune/low level H.264 .

According to Cringley Apple/Jobs is all about "hustling razor blades to sell razors". In other words Apple/Jobs is reaaly just all about selling Ipods (not music video). Apparantly WalMart dictates as to what Apple/Jobs does or doesn't do.

  7. The Nazis Who Ran The USA Space Program on Shuttle Atlantis Finally In Orbit · · Score: 0

Just a couple of comments about the USA intentions in space:

a)" In 1969, Americans cheered as our astronauts took their first steps onto the moon. The giant rocket that blasted them into space was Arthur Rudolph's crowning achievement as NASA's project director for Saturn V.

Fifteen years later, Rudolph relinquished his U.S. citizenship and left the country rather than face Justice Department charges that he had committed war crimes while working in an underground factory that had used Dora concentration camp prisoners as slave labor. The charges stemmed from Rudolph's "complicity in the abuse and persecution of concentration camp inmates who were employed by the thousands as slave laborers under his direct supervision," according to former Justice prosecutor Eli Rosenbaum, who directed the Rudolph case. Dora played a significant role not only in Hitler's efforts to win the war, but in the lives of Rudolph, Wernher von Braun, and other German rocket scientists who are now touted as American heroes in our history books. "

    b) Having Nazis running the USA's space program clearly identifies the purpose of the program. World domination from space. Don't like someone? Just pop in the GPS co-ordinates at the space station - launch missile and goodbye! How long will it take USA voters to figure it out? USA voters seem to be awakening from their slumber now. Gee... Bush is a liar. (WOW) Bush hates Blacks ... Katrina (WOW). Hopefully voters will now figure out what the space program is all about and then demand that the money being spent on the space program be switched to - spending on scientific education in elementary and secondary classrooms. ( I.D. geezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    c) If anyone actually wanted to study other planets - little robots designed by bright people not by the dummies at NASA (where are those Nazis when we need them?!) - fired off into space in little rockets is all that is necessary - at a fraction of the cost.

  8. 50% Of The Problem Is MPEG-4/H.264 +VC-1 Suck on Unbox Too Restricted and Too Expensive? · · Score: -1, Troll

Of course the idiots running the movies studios are half the problem - but the other half of the problem are the idiots running Apple, Microsoft and other monpolistic enterprises. The VC-1 video from Microsoft sucks badly while Apple's + DIVX+ Xvid MPEG-4/H.264 suck almost as badly as VC-1. Here's a quote from a comparative research piece - notice that Apple and other companies compressed their own videos for the study:

RealVideo Best Video Codec, Followed by Apple's H.264, Flash and Windows Media, Says New Report from StreamingMedia.com

The reports provide an objective counterbalance to the hyperbole coming from both the Flash and H.264 camps. One of the key findings from the Proprietary report, for example, was that the quality of the best Flash and H.264 codecs still trailed RealVideo, often by a significant margin.

"While the progress of H.264 and Flash codecs has been impressive," quipped report author Jan Ozer, "rumors of the demise of all other codecs have been greatly exaggerated."

    ??

To research the reports, Ozer produced a 6-minute test file composed of 38 scenes representing typical business, sports, and entertainment videos, along with several animations and still image pans and zooms. The reports analyzed video quality in up to five configurations--modem, 3GPP, 100 Kbps, 300 Kbps and 500 Kbps--and compared frame quality, temporal and color quality, and playback smoothness. Buyers can download all videos and still image files used in the analysis, along with a convenient interface for viewing the video files and still images.

    Proprietary Codecs, 2006

    ??

Beyond the depth and scope of the analysis, the Proprietary report has several unique aspects. For example, the files used to compare the technologies were encoded by Apple, Microsoft, and RealNetworks to ensure optimal quality. The report also compared the quality of prominent encoding tools such as Autodesk Cleaner XL, Canopus ProCoder, and Sorenson Squeeze, finding a significant disparity between the tools.

    ??

In addition to Real's superior quality, the report found that Windows Media had started to fall behind.

"With Microsoft's recent success in standards bodies, we expected quality to be at or near the top," commented Ozer, "but usually it was at or near the bottom. Companies using or considering Windows Media really need to evaluate other technologies."

(Is that why Waggoner and other Microsoft employees are hanging out with the "pirates" at Doom9, trying to convince the "pirates" that VC1 isn't as bad as it seems?)

The second report, "Flash Codecs, 2006" compared different companies' Flash Video offerings. StreamingMedia.com concluded that On2's VP6 codec came out on top when compared to Wildform and Sorenson Spark, but that "there are no one-size-fits-all solutions for Flash producers," according to Ozer.

And yes I am sure that every trick in the book has been tried here in Canada to steal elections.

When it comes to machines - you mention trust.
