  1. Bad info? on Did MS Lobbying Stop NSA Work On SELinux? · · Score: 3, Interesting

Did anyone bother to check the info? This quote may be old, misquoted (or misinterpreted), or dead wrong.

Dick Schafer is not the deputy director of the NSA. Per one of their press releases over two years ago, Bill Black is the Deputy Director:

Also, SELinux was updated on July 3rd. Sounds like a bit of work for a dead project :-)

  2. Good attention to detail on Ask Alton Brown How Food+Heat=Cooking · · Score: 1

Here's my question (address to Mr. Brown)

Love your show, like the amount of humor added to it. Some shows take themselves too seriously. Anyway...

I noticed that some of your shows focus on one particular item, going into great detail about some things that other shows miss (what the best kind of beef roast is, how to arrange your coals for better grilling, etc). I appreciate the attention to detail, and I was wondering if you detect a trend towards that, or if you are the only one around producing a "user friendly" cooking show.

Do you have a particular subject that is your absolute favorite? From what I've seen, I think you like grilling :-)

  3. What if a student is wrong? on Slashdot Meets The Pinkerton Corp. · · Score: 1

I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but what happens if a student reports another student, and they are wrong? The student reported will be humiliated, and for no reason.

This system could be used as a tool by the popular to extort the unpopular: "Give me ten bucks or I call you in".

However, this also could be used the other way. I hope that if schools implement this system, it will be able to stop the truly dangerous (the extremely popular bullies/thugs who are on the football team, and have the administration at their beck and call).

  4. How to get a Dvorak keyboard on Keyboards - Dvorak or Qwerty? · · Score: 1

I don't think that Dvorak keyboards are in high production, but you can get one of the old IBM keyboard with the moveable key caps. I've tried that, but unfortunately, I couldn't get used to it. Also, other people (who don't know Dvorak) use my computer from time to time. I don't know if the old IBM keyboards can still be bought, but there are probably a number of people just throwing them away. Try local high schools. They seem to have piles of these keyboards

  5. Security anyone? on HERF Gun: Make it in your basement · · Score: 0

Anyone thought of the real terrorist (bombs, etc) uses of this?

    1. Terrorist drives up to building in van (non-electronic van).

    2. Terrorist turns on HERF

    3. Security system? Somehow, it doesn't seem to be working right now...maybe it was running Windoze.

    Other fun uses:

    1. Electronic spy cameras (the ones you can hide in smoke detectors)? Zap...not anymore. (whoops, my finger slipped)

    2. Bad ISP getting on your nerves? Zap. Problem solved.

    3. Found out where a spammer lives? Zap. No more spam.

    4. How about those noisy neighbors above you, who don't understand the word "courtesy". You hear their subwoofer booming on your ceiling (and breaking things) Zap. Hmm....the party upstairs seems to have died.
