  1. Dual mode? on WiMax Folded Into 3G 'Family' · · Score: 1

Is there some reason they can't simply deploy dual mode 3G/wimax installations? We have A/B/G wifi... why not 3G/wimax on a chip? The only hurdle I can see is the range interference, but I'm sure they could find a way around that...

  6. Linux is no better on What's Really Broken with Windows Update - Trust · · Score: 0, Troll

Hear me out. I'm getting sick of hearing about how windows has all these "closed, secret updates". News flash, if you're a major corporation, you know EXACTLY what MS is pushing out, and often times have access to the source via an NDA for what is being pushed out. Now, this article may be very valid for joe schmoe user, but at the end of the day, linux is no better. SO WHAT if my grandpa can look at the code to the update being pushed to him. For him, that update is just as much of a black box as anything that MS pushes out. It is just as likely, if not more so, to break something, than any MS update. I have had FAR, FAR more updates on *nix* boxes *break EVERYTHING* than MS. Yes, I was able to work around it, which is great for me, because I know what I'm doing. If it were my grandpa's machine, he'd be paying someone to fix it, just like if his windows machine broke. So no, I don't think linux updates are in any way any better for the average user. I would be pressed to say that it's any better for the LEGIT power user either.

Let's be honest here, the people with the biggest issues with MS update are those with pirated copies of windows. Ya, sucks for them, but let's not cry about the fact that you got caught with your hand in the cookie jar.

Funny, I hear this argument again and again from netware zealots, yet none of them have ever spent a day administrating a windows network. Just because a company has 180 people, doesn't mean they're good, or trained. At the end of the day, 25 experienced admins are going to do a better job of keeping systems up and stable, than 180 inexperienced people with a certificate of completion from your local tech school of choice. Netware, windows, linux, unix, doesn't matter. If you were talking about windows98, I might agree. If you're rebooting windows2000+ "several times per year", you either haven't figured out how to use a firewall, or you shouldn't be administrating anything.

  9. How much goes to radiohead? on Radiohead Says Name Your Own Price for New Album · · Score: 4, Insightful

I've always said, if artists I liked would simply put up a paypal link on their page, where I knew all the money went to them... I'd gladly pay even list price for a lot of cd's. Knowing that only 1$ of my 20$ payment goes to the artist, and the rest to the MAFIAA, has long deterred me from purchasing any new music.

SO... how much of my price goes straight to radiohead? And how much goes to the MAFIAA (if any)? The article wasn't really clear about that point... Anyone care to enlighten me/us?

I'm also wondering how one would make the jump from 800Mb to 1GB... that would be quite the feat. I'm guessing that the B's are screwed up somewhere... it's just sad that something so glaringly wrong can be posted to a site like this...
