    This has already happened with teeth. Once humans figured out how to cook food thousands of years ago, teeth became non-essential. Compare human teeth with a chimp and it becomes obvious.

    So all we need to do is to show these robots how to self-replicate, I am sure most people on /. know enough about this practice that they should be able to explain this to a robot.

    Spanking the monkey in front of the computer will not enable robots to self-replicate.

    I think this has a direct 'colombine effect'. Kids that are uncomfortable when they are near or in physical contact other children are IMHO more likely to lash out in extreme ways, such as with weapons. Boys especially need to let off this type of steam.... the more 'alone' we become the more trapped we are in our minds.

    smokeless powder is engineered to be fluffy and hard to compress, so it is impossible(or at least very hard) to detonate.

    Why do you think more muscle is healthier? Many scientist believe that free radicals (a side prouduct of metabolism) are what causes premature cell death and aging. Muscles use much more energy than fat. If you look into caloric restriction, you have little fat or muscle (check out the forums at www.walford.com). I don't practice CR but I don't think the assumption muscle = good and fat = bad is a good one.

    Long hours for IT is red herring. I have worked in many situations, particularily corporations and goverment, where everyone goes home at 5pm. If your job has sucky life ruining hours, get a new job.

    you WANT more of your memory to be used for caching to speed things up

    This assumes that the user won't be doing anything else on their machine but browsing, which is a very poor assumption.

    Why are people staying with IE7 because it meets their needs ignorant? Firefox raised the bar and it appears that Micrsoft is able to jump it.

    I would suspect that it is easier to build and to get foundries running with the development engineers close bye. Expect some foundries breaking ground in India 4-5 years from now.

    Consumers don't care but analysts that help set buy ratings on their stock care.. AMDs solution will cost less to produce, make less heat and perform better. Which would be a better bet in the stock market in the long run?

    The problem is the normal law abiding/productive blacks (and there are many) don't make the news and are ignored by popular culture. All you get on tv are rappers, murderers and welfare cheats.
