Operating systems are pirated more and more often. Apple doesn't expect a huge increase in software sales if they open it up to all machines, they see a piracy increase (as well as an increase in OTHER companies hardware).
Much like iTunes' purpose is to sell iPods and iPhones, Mac OS X is for selling Macs.
Apple's cheapest notebook is $999, much more expensive than a $299 netbook. They don't want that type of competition.
Rock Band should immediately cease all talks with Warner and switch back to cover songs. I that case they will only need to pay a mechanical royalty of about $0.091 per unit sold per song. The only difference is that a cover band will be playing the songs.
If they choose to do this, Warner has literally NO say in the matter. They cannot deny them the license.
Maybe regulations should be made to change the way phone contracts are signed?
I don't think we should be able to call the FCC and cry about not liking contracts we signed, but maybe there should be rules about having initials next to every item on the contract (like the termination fee
I have to say, I really think this is pretty cool.
Steam is the best gaming platform ever. It is truly awesome. It lets me lose my CDs as long as I have my password. It lets me fix the game files if something happens to them. It lets me keep track of my friends and play with them instantly.
I know DRM is inherently bad, I know. But it's almost like Valve took all those promises that the MAFIAA made (such as, "DRM will give us new our customers new ways of enjoying our products"), and making them real.
Since Valve has a pretty intense lockdown on their games with Steam (a lockdown that I'm not entirely opposed to, since it is so good), they can lock access to any affected games until users update.
Yes, but at least that is motivation for lawyers to take on more cases like this. Hopefully this will benefit people who could not afford a decent lawyer normally.
All this means is that faces will be blurred. This will be WAY more cost / time efficient than actually getting signatures, or trying to only get shots with no people.
In fact, they are probably working on some sort of automated way to do this right now.
The merger, according to their complaint, would give one company access to more information about the Internet activities of consumers than any other company in the world.

You are all missing the most important piece.

Looks like the newest prank to play on someone's computer will include uninstalling all of their browsers.
I agree whole heartedly.
When a customer ends their contract VERY early, the fee may not even cover the true cost of the phone.

Indeed -- hopefully the next company they sue will go the whole nine yards and end this.
I thought that part of the point of Google's honorary logos was that the holidays had to be:
1. Completely obscure and unheard of
or
2. A MAJOR (American) holiday
I don't understand why anyone would actively attack them over not including this particular one..
p.s. first?
This site doesn't seem to be updated in a few versions, but it's still very applicable:

I must be missing something.. isn't WebTV just Web + TV?
Aren't these exactly the types of patents we DON'T want being granted?
Reminds me of the hamburger earmuffs, and the electric blanket mobile.
Man, eBay is going to make so much money on the Final Value Fee for this auction
The lower plans seem crappy, but the 7 MBPS for $60.00 isn't half bad, is it?
yet another "we gave it a shot and it didn't work" plan before it's even out the door.
i really hope no one actually uses real rhapsody anymore..

Said update should include a copy of the GPL.
Certainly not from Call of Duty for 360.
They ship broken games, and don't even fix them!

I guess there weren't any basic tutorials on computer security in that budget
.. DRM for seeds.
Yeah, look at Half-Life 2 -- oh wait, it did better.
We're not talking about not id or Valve or anyone else, just Blizzard.
They can pull it off.
I suppose the government didn't help with that..
They are making between 29.99 and 69.99 a month from basically every household in the country, forever.
wait, so is that illegal or something?
