the more i work with bands and record labels (labels that are meant to be indie) the more dirt i find out about this industry.
so many bands nowadays are picked up or formed by majors (RIAA labels) secretly, then they are put on an "indie" label for their first cd. then once the indie/punk/insert_somewhat_underground_genre_here crowd loves them, they release the next album on the major.
then when they are on mtv/radio, the people who just buy into whatever they hear love them, and so does the underground (or at least those who'd like to theink they are) crowd.
From TFA: The big downside about iTunes, of course, is that its proprietary Fair Play DRM, isn't compatible with other systems.
Maybe I'm mistaken, but isn't Fair Play a Microsoft thing, you know that little badge that shows up on their mp3 players and cdroms? Isn't Fair Play the CD DRM that Apple refuses to support?
at first i thought you were an asshole, but
you are right. we will never truly break the
business of drm by cracking it, we'll only
truly break it buy discontinuing our funding
of it.
every time we buy something drm'd, even if we
complain, we have just given drm $XX.XX more
in support.
i understand that this seems to be the new middle class norm, but it doesn't mean that it is right.
if parents decide to live their lives this way, they will have to accept the fact that no matter who they hire or expect to raise their children, they have the responsibility. their kids aren't going to look to their nanny or the president for love. it will likely be too late when most couples like the one you described realize what has happened.
my parents didn't let the government raise me. none of my friends' parents let the government raise them. if my parents deemed an R rated movie or M rated game ok for me, regardless of my age, they let me view/play it. if they deemed a PG-13 move or T rated game NOT ok, they didn't.
if google should legally pay the proper taxes, then sure go ahead.
but bringing up some issue of retirement funds that are lacking in
money has prety much nothing to do with anything. if they are unable
to deal with their own budgets, someone should be fired.
it seems that the resale value of one of 100 million $100 laptops wouldn't be that great, and that the demand might not even exist where these laptops are distributed.
but more importantly, how can we help stop it? does sending an email from a web form to your congressman do anything? i feel like i'm sending my requests into a black hole deeper than a hotmail feature request form.
does anyone know what the best way to get our views out is? should we call/email/write?
personally, i used ubuntu because i was at the end of my ropes. i was trying to take linux for a spin on my laptop, and being the noob that i am i couldn't figure out how to get hardware working with most distros.
with ubuntu, my wireless and video worked right off the bat, so it let me really take it for a test drive.
i never got my video card working perfectly though, so now i'm back on winxp. le sigh..
also, with gmail you are able to use a pop client. it may have changed since i checked, but last time i heard you had to use yahoo's pay service to use a different client.
did anyone else close the window after selecting a language since it was taking so long? maybe they should distribute the page via p2p to speed thigns up.
Google has had this feature for quite some time, and has nothing to do with google talk. your parent was right, that should say instant messaging. Text messaging also refers to sms in america.
this doesn't make sense to me, it sounds like the perfect way for microsoft to dig their own grave.
microsoft isn't going to just buy aol and let it sit, they have msn to worry about. they would probably try some rediculous merge that would end up with people jumpin ship from both!
eventually, everyone who wants to take advantage of the internet dumps aol.. even old people. how much faster will they dump it if they are not just getting aol's rediculous ads all over, but msn's too?
while it's pretty retarded to keep the cc on the key (at least unencrypted, imo) i don't think you're getting what he's saying. i'm pretty sure he's saying that in case they lose their database of customer information they still have a copy they can come to they get things running again.

it's ingenious, and disgusting.
hopefully this will help push the responsibility onto those parents.
it was probably a powerbook. those artsy types are all the same.

i wouldn't say that, nearly everything that google
makes can be abused (even search!)
it's just not widespread, and the benefits outweigh
the posibility of script kiddies and psychos.
these webcomics are so dated, there are so many new ones to consider:
- toothpaste for dinner
- natalie dee
- white ninja comics
- questionable content
- diesel sweeties
you guys are seriously e-tarded. dupe city

bah this is awful.

yeah that is actually why i'm not into it so much. there were some issues with logging in at first too, they seem to be cleared.
i've used yahoo's beta mail for a few days, and i'm changing it back to the original.

the actual article isn't a dupe, but the sentiment is. no real reason to post this same content again..
well actually, they have a line of mac products.
