the biggest problem is that shrinks,(I forget the proper term for one who can prescribe meds) are all convinced that the brain is the seat of thought, now ime not saying it isnt a major part, but there is no evidence out there that proves this. Its just the only place that the empirical scientific viewpoint can look for. This is why there are still religions and even good old fashioned freudian's out there, sometimes its not the brain that needs treatment, its the mind.
I love seeing more games come out for linux. Right now I use windows for that reason alone. I would much rather use something else, however I can do everything I want internet related on windows, Is there a complete linux browser out there? while I dont know of one I am shure there are word processors and other such apps for linux, but the main reason I stick with windows is to play various games. Fortunately, if this trend continues I will finally have reason enough to junk gates's crap and run something better. And so will many others.
From what I understand things in cuba were so bad for the common person, under batista, that any leader who actually cared about the wellbeing of the people couldnt help but drastically improve things. That is probably the best part about cuba is I beleave that Castro actually gives a shit about the average cuban. How many other leaders can you say that about? In fact if this country ever stoped holding its 30 year old grudge against castro then cuba would probably become the best place on earth to live. at least untill castro dies.
The major point youre missing is that herbert was what is known in academic circles as a soft science fiction writer. Herbert uses the various technologies to advance the story he is trying to tell. Herbert does not care weither they work under analysis or not, because they work for the story he is trying to tell.
I hate to bring this up because it is so damn depressing but in the world of international politics treaties are just peices of paper. I forget the name of it but after WWI a treaty was actually signed with the purpose to ban all war. Hitler didnt obey the versilles treaty when he built the weirmacht, Japan was once limited in the size of the fleet they could possess(I also forget the name of this treaty), or as somebody mentioned the numerous treaties the usa signed with the indians. I could go on for hours but the point would still be anybody who thinks we havent been working on abm technology for years is naieve, in fact if i understand correctly the targeting software on the patriot missle( used to knock out scud ballistic missles) would be capable of taking out an ICBM with just a few modfications, and the us government has admitted to having these for years.
in fifth grade i was a mamber of the boy scouts, one weekend we went on a camping trip which required a short hike in. since I was new to scouting the only think I had to carry all the things I needed for the weekend was my school backpack. one of the many things i took was a swiss army knife, a TOOL of much value in the wilderness. upon my return I unpacked my backpack and refilled it with school books and such. at this time I discovered that my knife was nowhere to be found. after searching my pack again i was still unable to locate it, so I chalked it up as lost in the woods. several days later while sitting in class I was digging around in my pack for a pencil when what should I find but my lost swiss army knife. knowing that having a weapon at school resulted in a severe penalty, and it might be interpreted as a weapon, I decided to approach my teacher with the knife and explain the situation to her, certinally I thought she would understand and simply take the knife and return it to my mother, WRONG!!! I was run out of that school faster than you can say ignorant, despite the advocation of my mother, my scoutmaster, and a lawyer. now despite the fact that it is almost impossible to actually hurt somebody who doesnt want to be with a basic swiss army knife, if I had any violent intention i would not have turned it in myself, but here I am in fifth grade facing possible criminal weapons charges for doing what I had always been taught was the right thing. My record as of my graduation still reflected a weapons charge and suspension, you know the same record they send people who are considering you for a schlorship in collage. so here I am today at 22 years old, in collage with god knows a swiss army knife, and two screwdrivers in my backpack and uncountable other tools and objects in the trunk of my car. all of these objects would be considered a weapon were I to be found with them in a high school today. Now the question I put to you is do you really want people with this mentality going through the personal belongings of your child, remember in at least all the public schools I attended possession of a watergun and possession of a nine mm beretta were the same offense. little paper whippersnappers, fireworks you can safely detonate in your mouth, are the same offense as pipe bombs just think about all the things you use on a regular basis that some overzealous principle might consider to be breaking some rule. screwdrivers, nailfiles, tire tools (hope you dont get a flat in the school parking lot), leatherman tools, swiss army knives, pliers, wrenches, all of these would have been considered weapons at schools I have attended. I shudder to think what my employment prospects would be like if my collage could get a computer file like mosaic, considering the event related above. probably involving the eternal question "would you like fries with that"
yes exactly that, check out thomas hobbes's work, leviathan, and i beleave although i dont have it here the crito by plato, i may be wrong on which one it is so loot for the "speach of the laws of athens" but reading plato is good for the soul anyway. basically what the laws of athens say is that since you choose to live in athens (its speaking to socraties) you agree to obey the laws of athens, if you dont like the laws then leave
I thought you were right,(except it starts with a c I know this, there is no k or j in classical latin) at least thats how my history teacher wrote it, however my latin teacher corrected me one day when I emailed him (I use the same sig both here and on email), if you are right then thanks--- we need bablefish for latin, any volunteers
right and wrong are not subjective, rather whatever society agrees upon. these are known as laws. by living in this country you have implicitaly agreed to obey these laws, or to accept punishment for violating them. if you do not like these laws then leave. otherwise do what you will within them
his house burned, thats a fact. now because his house has burned hemos is better capable of mentaly dealing with any other loss that comes later in life. (and they will, life sucks, its not my fault) to understand the original statement you need to learn to think beyond your stuff, all one needs to live a happy and full life are some beans, a lantern, a cup, and a large peice of pottery to sleep in ( a barrell will work as well) the important things are friends and loved ones. and hemos didnt loose any of these ( thank the prime cause).
yes but since hemos is not dead (thank the prime cause) he now has the opportunity to grow as a person, thats the bright side of this. and a much more important one than any amount of stuff.
if you honestly say your bannana is singing then all i can honestly say is that i do not hear the same things coming from your bannana. that doesnt make them any less real to you. reality is a highly subjective devil, and the only way to know anything about is is by abstracting from sense experience. for more on this subject I suggest reading Descartes "Meditations on First Philosophy", Locke's arguement from variation - I forget where thats published. and anything by Bishop George Barkley. all of this stuff is online or at the library. They can say this better than i can. and it takes more room then they want me to use here.
um uh last time i checked my microwave didnt have a computer..... neither does my grandmothers 1950's amana radar range hmmmmm oh by the way any car with a computer in it sucks!!!! (unless its a laptop in the back seat)... radio no need for a computer there radios have only gotten smaller not better with transistor and circut technology, the marconi wireless could cross the atlantic and thats about as far as one needs. and i do also beleave that while some tv's use computer chips they are not necessary, besides whats worth watching on tv anyway? pc and n64 well they are just computers anyway, i would much rather have my privacy anyway. oh and quality of life... whats the quality of life for those who have no jobs or one which offers a paper hat instead of self respect because they lost thier jobs to a computer. in short if youre going to make an arguement know what you are talking about and consider all sides of the issue before spouting off thank you

because whatever you choose to use; silicon, spam, sugars, lipids......whatever. you are still manuipilating the physical realm, wherehas consciouness, true consciouness not just passing the turing test exists beyond the physical realm. if it didnt then all thought would be determined by cosmic rays, magnetic fields, and other electromagnetic phenominon.
well not much will change. thats human nature, sorry folks but we wont end up being some super-wise benevolent race that interacts with machines smarter than us. no AI machines with human consciouness, thats something metaphysical that cant be made of wires and silicon. I predict at least one nuclear detonation in the united states either by a terrorist group or war. there will be at least two major wars one will probably be nuclear. but not on the mutual assured destruction level. space travel will be common but not outside our solar system. trips to mars will still take a LONG time, but will be faster than they are today. some humans will never set foot on earth. some will never go higher than sea-level. worldcom will buy microsoft (which will still be more popular than linux in the pc realm because it is easier to learn, remember dear hunter was once the most popular game on the shelves), and AT&T. cocacola will get a new agressive ceo who will buy worldcom, krupps, sony, eastern europe, all the auto makers, most of the computer hardware companies, and everything else it can get its hands on. and become known as THE COMPANY. pepsi will still be around though. famines and disease will still happen, a major plague might hit the USA or EURASIA and wipe out a large percent of the population there alla black plague. inflation will continue as will your taxes. problems will still plague the biotech industry, no hearts in testtubes folks, but maby in baboons or pigs. cybernetic replacements will become available or improve (Jarvek style Hearts, kidney diallisys machines that can be implanted where your bad kidney was, maby livers and lungs as well.)some old diseases will go. some new ones will spring up. people will still die, however the average life span will increase a good bit. new energy sources will become available and widespread, however hydrocarbons will stay popular, just not as dominant. Robots will not replace a large number of jobs, as developement costs will still be higher than minnimum wage, however robots will replace more jobs. collage education will become mandatory and free, essentially a collage education will be as necessary for employment as a high school one is now.

hey if youre serious email me. weel talk, not all problems can be chalked up to chemical imballances,
from time to time the tree of liberty must be refreshed with the blood of patriots and tyrants. perhaps its time again?

from what I understand the rest of the world (outside the usa) gets the new coke formulation.

why dont we all cut our little fingers with free aol cd's and then sue because they dont have warning labels
