If it hadn't of been bittorent it would have been blah blah blah all the way back to distributing it via various floppys(a slight hyperbole there but oyu get the picture). The method of distribution matters not.Perhaps they would better serve their time by finding out the causes as to why people do it,not how.
Ok bad pun i know.. this gives us a redundancy Admins can only dream of in other areas. The fact that you can have your files spread over a massive number of computers spread across the world is the way of future file distribution. The load changes from a constant one on your server to a one off (well perhaps one day) of uploading it , then as soon as you know it the file propigates itself across the p2p network allowing for speeds unatainable in the classic server-client model which is still prevelant. The bandwidth saving is amazing compared to even the torrent/tracker system (which already shaved a hell of alot of bandwith use). Way to go , this is the eveloution that has been needed for years , Arguments for the facilitation of copyright infringing material asside (which has hapend on every file distribution system since the Tape , )
Also (to reply to myself as i forget to add something , one of those days i guess) , Think of the massive redundancy you gain. Even if you have a behemoth of a server(or several) things go down ocassionaly(be it the server , the power to the server , he conection etc) , The redundancy this awards you is unmatched . Several thousand people hosting a link to the cotent which is hosted by several thousand people over several thousand computers. That is the future of file distribution and its a something that is unfeasable otherwise
You do , honestly . Trackers and torrent files , whilst small are still a drain on bandwidth that need not exist. Many sites and young projects/distros just dont have the money to support a server , or they do have the money and could better use it in other areas. It may not seem like much cost to distribute a 50KB file but if you get popular it can add up , then you have alot of other overheads.Removing the necesity for those overheads Removes alot of burdon from the server.
Its a technoligy designed to facilitate in the distribution of media , if you choose to abuse it then thats your fault. Many people do use the technoligy to distribute copyrighted materials , many others use it to distribute GPL software and linux distros (which is how i get all my distros , via bittorent) Having a system like this decentralises the network further , which is a brilliant thing as bandwidth is expensive , this will take the load off many networks if it picks up. Celebrating the freedom to share is more apt , what you share is up to you (and any consiquences there of).
There is only a couple of things worse than a marketing department , like lawyers. There is only one thing worse than a lawyer , and thats a lawyers merketing department.
Looks to be an excelent piece of tabloid journalism... Tabloids can turn "Man saves two from burning building " into " Man breaks into house and abducts residents"
"The pride of the American airfoce , the brittish built harrier jump jet." Ins't this news about a _Brtittish system , by a Brittish company , Reported by the Brittish broadcasting corperation.... I know Tony blair is a bit of a tool , but its not the 51st state yet
I phrased that badly i appoligise for the disinfo,I was rather distracted at the time, It should read 9.3% of the power consumed was garnerd from wind and other natural power. to quote the wikipedia artical though "Wind accounts for only 0.4% of the total electricity production on a global scale (2002). Germany is the leading producer of wind power with 35% of the total world capacity in 2005 (10% of German electricity)" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_power I can see where my i made the mistake , i was reading about 5 sources of info at once . so perhaps Germany is garnering that much info from wind power.
To back that up a little , I lived most of my life in Aberdeen Scotland which is the Oil captiol of Europe, a hell of alot of jobs around the region are intertwined with the oil rigging industry and the other sectors of the oil field. If Aberdeen were to lose those jobs instantly it would be a massive blow and the same for many other areas and regions throught the world , we can't simply just switch from oil and natural fosil fuels , it needs to be slowly introduced to build up the new industrys or we could be see wide spread global reccesions for a number of years , as oil brings in a hell of alot of money
Actualy in germany in 2004 it was roughly 9.4% of the power consumed was garnerd from wind power http://www.climateark.org/articles/reader.asp?link id=39367 Its not a conspiracy theory its a fact of the matter , It will be replaced eventualy but right now too many jobs and natural resource earnings would be at stake for countrys to consider ditching it right now
Conglomorates its the right word though (A corporation made up of a number of different companies that operate in diversified fields.) most of them do have stakes in several sectors,if you look into the various fields companys such as shell , BP and Texaco operate..
I like to look at it in a darwinian sense , if these birds are stupid enough to fly into wind turbines then perhaps its natural selection.Though even then it is a very minor risk of it happening atall , unless as you say they are planted in migration routes. Then that is perhaps a little cruel , they will need to devise some form of scare-crow to ward off the birds. ofcourse they will need to do it without making the plants eye-sores and making them confusing to air crafts in the dark (a line of these with flashing lights could get mistaken for a landing strip i imagine( in harsh conditions).
http://www.industcards.com/hydro-scotland.htm Hydro has been one of the main sources of power in scotland since 1930s (some really wonderfull damms with great architecture) , I used to visit them alot when i was younger , a real majesty about them. the planet is mostly water anyway and with the power of tides and gravity , if we put effort into it i am fairly sure we could get nearly all of our energy needs from water . only problem is that their is little money to get out of it compared to drilling for oil.
And the Oil crissis will hit sooner or later(unless we develop a way of creating natural oil cost effectivly,) We really need to be focusing on natural renewable energy sources and things like fission and fusion power. People don't like nuclear power because of incidents like three mile island and Chernobly, yet more damage is done each year by the cumulitive effects of coal/gas and oil plants. If Nuclear power had not been stiffeld by protestors and irational worrys then the chances are today we would have nuclear as a far far safer and more productive power source. Alot of the FUD talk most likely comes not from groups like green.peace but from the oil barons who have far mroe intrest in keeping these things at bay
The enviromental extremest(I am very much an enviromentalist , but am pragmatic about it) will find any reason to complain , we have heaps of them here in Germany , I often drive past them (well im a passenger) And have never once seen a dead bird laying around at the bottom of them , they are hardly noisy atall and generaly not that much of an eye sore(i kind of like them ). Its rather insulting to the inteligence of birds , i have yet to see one study that can confirm birds would be that prone to flying into them , People seem to prefer irrational fear to logic.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/354882 0.stm ive read a few other reports on the matter, At the current rate of progression it was noted that we would only have 10% of the power from renewable energy by 2020, However i have read a few reports that were speculating that wave generators set up around Scotland could provide 20-25% of Europes power needs. If this is so , then it would definantly be a great source of commerce for the region. Not to mention the positive effect on the enviroment,.
Yet this will be stiffeld at every turn by the conglomerats who make a fair bit out of natural resource based fuels.
In the region of Germany i am currently , i belive a large percentage of the enegry is derived from wind power(a commen sight when driving around here are collections of wind turbines) , If other countrys were to take on schemes such as these we could cut emmison levels by massive ammounts. This wont hapen though , as oil(coal gas etc) is money and money is power , so untill the well drys up there will be little done about it , bar experiments.
Ms PacMan was a better game , in the same way that Super mario Bros 3 was better than Super Mario brothers. The reason the cred goes to PacMan is that without it Ms PacMan would have probably been what PacMan was. Definantly though , Ms PacMan was one sequal that really did improve upon the origional , They learnt the leassons from PacMan and build upon its strength to build a far better game . unlike many sequals we see nowadays which add little more than a slick of paint and some mior tweaks and end up forgetting why the game was fun in the first place
I loved Pac-man , it was one of the first games i ever played and got hooked on it. Everything about it was just brilliant at the time , it was stylisticly wonderfull and pac-man has rightly so earnt its place amongst our cultural iconography. Though i wonder why it took the guinness book people so long to recognise Pac-man. *hums level up noise*
If treated properly ADD/ADHD can be curbed just enough to counter alot of the negative effects , ofcourse it keeps getting diagnosed willy-nilly and thrown to everyone who fidgets nowadays it seems. Being someone who is living with ADHD i am quite thankfull for the treatment , I more like to think of it as what could da-vinci of achived had he been properly helped with it. Given rather more focus to his various skills and allowed to fully develop the concepts , rather than having a new thought half way through and having to quickly nip off to do that;)
