Do you regard the FDA as regulation, because the FDA call themselves a regulator? Do you believe that drug companies should be able to sell any useless or dangerous drug to consumers? Or is your definition of regulation and law enforcement just some arbitrary distinction you came up with to justify disagreeing with laws you don't like?

Sure, high definition is better, but it costs sometimes twice as much for the HD version a the moment. The GP didn't say he couldn't tell the difference, just that he didn't see the need for an increase in quality.

I agree, that's why Flash is such a great idea. Instead of browser developers being bogged down fixing its multitude of problems, they just have to pester Adobe for a few years.

Seriously though, Adobe just announced that while Flash on Windows will support GPU acceleration, the OS X version will not (and I suspect neither will the Linux version). Adobe might take years to add a feature that Apple have already implemented for Safari's HTML engine (using the Quicktime library). Scripting means a single point of closed source failure.

I respect you, but I have to disagree with you here. In climate science, unlike maths or physics, you can not always be absolutely certain of something. There are so many variables involved in climate, there will always be some doubt, however tiny. Despite this, it seems very likely that global warming is caused by man, and that it is linked to our output of carbon dioxide. This being the case, reducing our CO2 output is the obvious next step, as are finding ways of sequestering carbon so that it does not enter the atmosphere.

Interesting post, but a few things are different between New Zealand and Germany. The equivalent to the Prime Minister in Germany is the Chancellor. Based on reading the Wikipedia article, the Chancellor is selected by secret ballot of their parliament. They are the head of government. The President is selected by secret ballot of a wider pool of people, but is largely ceremonial, much like our Queen. Much as the Queen can (theoretically) veto laws, so can their president, but it appears he has more legal scope to do so than our monarch.

So racism is dead in America right? Until that happens of course it is still unacceptable to apply monkey parody to black public figures. You cannot ignore America's (or much of the West's) shameful history of racism. Do not imagine for a second that the people who create images of Michelle Obama that make her look more monkey like are doing it simply because they noticed the striking similarity between humans and monkeys. They are doing it because they are racists.

I disagree. Firstly, the government employs people like the private sector. Secondly, government run mail services, for example, create just as much wealth as a privately run service. The same is true for telecom services and hospitals. I don't think the European welfare states operate out of ignorance. I think they operate that way because it works best. Looking at any of the stats (crime rates, life expectancy, 'happiness') you'll find Scandinavian countries very high up.
