You were actually shocked by this? I switched to AMD years ago when Intel first started buying off reviewers, reporters, & analysts to preach their gospel of Intel superiority to AMD...
In some things they were right way back when (K6 days, though the K6 made a much much better bussiness or light server system). But they've kept up regardless of whether they are actually right or not...
Actually AMD is trying to establish a series of testing criteria that will allow us to rate cpu's by means other than performance... Some fo the other chip makers have hinted they may at some point support the idea.
Intel though has laughed at that as being nonsense & says publically that AMD's rating system is a way for them to appear more competitve against their Ghz rated products. Of course they refuse to comment on why to most benchmarks AMD's cpu's rated much lower in Ghz speed can equal if not beat the higher Ghz Intel made cpu's... Go figure...
We do that all the time... Sometimes as learning (upgrade), sometimes as psychotherapy (upgrade or replacement at least in part, especially via the use of drugs with psychotherapy), sometimes with what is known as 'life experience'...
That we can't just remove it as a whole & take apart it's raw code yet to rewrite portions directly doesn't mean it isn't true. We've just gone around our limitation (of lack of source code) by interaction...
Hehe I had another/. user suggest I move to the UK just yesterday... To bad no real countries are immune to the influence of big bussiness these days...
Well in my case I have to pay back a few thousand extra in college loans (it's a grant, but if I leave my state it's a loan) extra if I moved there... I'd also have to hope you guys needed plenty of networking help... Oh & I'd have to move across an ocean from 99.999999% of people I know (I know one person who lives in the UK)...
I'd pay $80 a month if theyed just give me a three line ISDN conenction (2x64k & 8k constant connect) or better... I do get by kinda cheap with dial-up though as I only pay $14.95/month unlimited use near constant connect (the phonelines get all freaky & I get dropped after more than 15 or so hours, but I have auto re-dial)...
I don't vote because I hate all candidates universally... & why do I hate them? Because they aren't for the people anymore... They are for their pocket books & their own agendas & don't care about people all that much...
I actually would like to picket all the voting centers come voting time & make sure that only a handful of people voted at all... If just abouteveryone stopped voting maybe someone in charge would take notice that none of the candidates should get the job...
You know, first of all, most modern homes (within 10 years) are 'prewired' for a second phone line, right? They just switch which wired pair your using on whatever phones you want... Not to mention they charge you near $100 for the 'install'...
Second, Not all of us have the option of using DSL... Verizon (who became the local phone company) sees my town (of 5000 people) as a non-market so they refuse to offer anything beyond phone lines & super expensive ISDN 56k to businesses... The local switching center is state of the art & they could add anything they wanted simply by tossing in the controller box... 99% of the town could be served from that one switching station for DSL...
Actually for quite some time Quantum drive shave been what Maxstor has been selling while they switched to (& built up inventory on) their new Fluid Dynamic Bearing equiped drives. The store I work at got nothing besides Quantum Maxstor drives for over 6 months...
On the other hand at least Maxstor will do an advanced RMA if soemthing does happen to your drive...
You forgot to mention the 6 or 7 (that I've heard of) 'Adult Film' Companies that Disney owns... Guess people while have to boycott porn to... That might be hard for some of these slashdotters...
Yes, but the article only states profits in the US & the comment wasn't considering the extra money that comes from foreign markets (which can easily be twice overall what just US figures are). Hence my comment that you have to take into account foreign sales or the comment isn't a complete picture.
Also the original article (& the comment) are reffering to theatre ticket sales. piracy has little to no effect on ticket sales in the US... See the other 50+ posts sayign so below for a list of reasons...
I agree with releasing at the same time everywhere, but their are several places I cna think of (like England) where they get the movie within weeks of the US release... DVD releases still take 3 months (or at least they do here in the US).
You do however make it sound as if movie 'piracy' is considerably worse in Portugal though. Maybe the movie industry should focus more on foreign markets & pircay? (not to say that everyone does that there) But the US still lacks broadband even in some large cities (or at least some areas of large cities) & DVD's can be rented at the local video store even in the smallest towns these days... Making piracy less apealing (or at least I think so)...
You are forgetting foreign markets... Valenti (unless I completely missed it in the article) is only talking about US revenue... lots of non-top 20 films get carried overseas. Even if a film "only" makes 30M of it's 47M cost in the US how hard would it be to make another 17M world-wide? Not very hard really...
Err... At least the last tiem I looked into Plenum grade cable it came in UTP & STP... Of course STP I've seen lately is also limited to CAT3 (unless you know of some strange place that claims better)... On top of that Plenum's only advantage is when it catches on fire it doesn't give off highly caustic smoke...
So all in all, since you've not been right on much of what you said I don't think he should listen all that muc to your suggestion...
Yes you do need the RF unit to plug into the game port so the DVD pasrts will work... Though It's a pretty much standard RCA remote that comes with it (retail value $14.99), so once you have the RF unit you can use any universal remote (since the kit uses a RCA remote try RCA RF signals) or any RCA DVD player remote...
I wish theyed sell a RF unit by itself & let me use my 'master of all electronics' universal 12 device remote for the box withotu paying extra for a remote I don't need...
huh Well I live in Erie PA (across the state & north by a hundred miles) & we can't keep X-boxes in stock... How about you send them all our way because I know we can sell them...
Actually the gamecube has a fan on the left side (when it's facing you), It also has venting on both left & right sides... The PS2 is more like a laptop in that it's casing just gets hot...
No modern system is very cool running & their aren't many alternatives to using fans...
Um I for one cannot stand the thought of gaming on something using a crappy low res TV (& even the highest end HDTV running at 720p is less than what I run my crystal clear monitor at for gaming). So your thought about killing gaming on the PC (as frankly billy knows most PC gamers don't run Linux for gaming... & no don't try to say you do, those 50 or so games that run on linux won't satisfy a serious PC gamer), would be the worst possibel thing he could ever think up... & he knows very well it would be that sorta idea, so it's never gonna happen...
There were people posting about ocing their 1.33 & 1.4 Ghz Athlon XP's to 1.7-1.8 Ghz within days of the release...Aparently the smarter members of the ocing community have already proven the type of headrom a proper Athlon XP system has...
AMD has been playing it very safe on clockspeed to make sure infrastructure is in place to get better performance (& not overwhelm or hurt next years profits due to performance beign to similiar between Athlon & Clawhammer). Tom is just an Id10t so he managed a whole speed grade increase with his oc... Wonder if he even bothered to use a non-standard heatsink... But I'm not about to read the crap he puts out to find out...
>In the 10 years since MD's first appeared, no->one's come up with a better portable format
>(MP3's fail on the expense of the players, the >lack of removable media and the sound quality). >I *dare* you to challenge this statement !
I'll make a couple comments on this last part... CD mp3 players (~$149-179) cost an almost equal amount as a MD player ($179+). The difference between them is size... Sound quality between a MD ATRAC3 & a 192-156 bit MP3 is very similiar...
I guess MS didn't pay Cnet enough in advertising $$$ to layoff til their plan was already inacted... Maybe they need to raise their payoff... err 'marketing' budget a little higher...
& you think it's true because Tom Pabst (the person who considers a Dr. on his name to make him an expert on anything) said it? Try lookign at some more reviews & see what the real lowdown is. Try:

I'd mention AMDzone for also having pointed out that AMD's rating is based on performance against the last athlon cpu, not against the P4 (which is what I said in my last post). This was also mentioned on JC's PC news & several otehr sites that can read AMD's own statements.
Is it likely that the P4 from Intel is the reason for the change? Of course. Is it were the numbers actually come from? No! If you dont want to beleive me go to AMD's website & read their press releases...
Gee it woudl be nice if you would maybe read soem of AMD's comments on the matter before you post what you think AMD is comparing... AMD clearly (& repeatedly) states that it's XP model numbers reflect performance vs. their older athlon (tbird) cpu's... It's your opinion that AMD is setting XP against P4 or northwood P4... If you'll please refrain from putting words in AMD's mouth maybe this could go somewhere...

You have almost exactly described how it is here for me... Does Verizon just do the same thing everywhere?
In my case though I'm stuck with a speed of 28.8, due to what they have done to the lines...

good point, I forgot about that one... But I was trying to point out some of their more hiden & lesser known ventures first...
