No, but I also don't feel the need to watch content over my TV.

I see, so it doesn't count as useful unless you do it. Gotcha.

If I want to watch full-screen video on a screen, I'll use a computer.

What if you don't have your computer with you? What if you are traveling? Over at a friend's place?

Last I checked, most TVs don't have Apple-specific cabling on them, either, though I'm sure Apple would love to change that.

Why would you think that, other than that you hate Apple? Apple didn't make the dock connector for no reason. They made it because there was nothing else that was as compact (thin) as secure-locking physically, and enabled them to perform the functions they want to perform.

But please enlighten us with your conspiracy theories about how Apple is on a mission to make everything in the world proprietary (despite the fact that they have backed many industry and open standards). Do you really think people who use portable devices want a bunch of awkward and bulky connectors, when they can have just one? You're essentially saying that innovation should not happen in this area.

I'm just saying that Apple doesn't have an exclusive lock on doing things with media,

    Right. So, what's the problem?

Look, it's a free country, buy all the Apple-specific cabling you want. Get white plasticky logos on your clothing for all I care... and even if your device happens to depend on that magic connector there's a whole world that depends on other established standards that works just fine without it. Thankfully, you can buy all the plastic flambe you want. Have at it.

Ahhh, that clears things up nicely. You're just an insecure troll. Have a nice day.

Right, because all our TVs have WiFi receivers in them for analog video signals? And our stereos all have WiFi receivers if we want to use a fixed line-level audio output, rather than one that's been sent through a headphone amplifier, at variable levels? And our microphones and other audio devices all have a WiFi transmitters if we want to get an audio signal into the iPod?

You may fear lock-in, but your proposal would lock most people out of useful functions. And what about the generations of iPod which never had Wi-Fi?

Let's be clear on this situation: HDD makers, instead of making larger HDDs would rather spin the numbers to make them appear larger instead of actually being larger.

But if all HDD manufacturers are using the same units, then what competitive advantage would there be to making smaller units? People shop for hard drives on a comparison basis, not by a mathematical calculation of the number of bytes.

In fact, because Windows and Mac OS (up until now) have reported these units differently, the wouldn't the hard drive makers be more at risk of customer dissatisfaction when their new HD doesn't show the same number printed on the box? If this is supposed to be some kind of industry conspiracy for more sales, then it's a damned stupid and counterproductive one.

However, since there's never really been any evidence for such a conspiracy, why is this even an issue?

I think that's backwards. It's Nikon and Canon's premium-paying professional market that funded their move into point-and-shoots and consumer cameras. The technology in the professional cameras is handed down to the consumer ones. It's not like point-and-shoot cameras start out with advanced technology that later gets added to the pro line.

Maybe so, but those same engineers are likely to miss other trends, such as the personal computer versus mainframes. To them the personal computer is junk compared to their meticulously crafted machines, but they miss the point entirely.

No it's not the same thing. Semantics are very important when you are saying that a sentence means the same thing as a completely different sentence.

If it's a meaningless distinction, why do you feel the need to rewrite what Obama said, rather than quoting him accurately?

When the option was to have a pacemaker installed or die, telling the woman her mom should have just taken the pill was telling her to die.

She's also going to die if she has surgery, so wouldn't telling her to have surgery be the same thing?

Not to mention that he never said that anybody shouldn't have surgery, but just offered an alternative.

He told a woman that her mom should have not taken the surgery that saved her life and allowed her to live 5 years and counting and said she should have forgotten about the surgery and taken a pain pill.

    No, he didn't.

My position is that it's the patient's choice, not yours, not the governments, not some insurance agency who thinks if they wait long enough, she will die before the surgery.

And that's the exact same position as Obama and the government. Nobody is suggesting that the government decides who lives or dies. So I'm not exactly sure who you are arguing with. You position is the same as Obama's - that patients should have choice.

I guess that if you oppose universal health-care, you are actually arguing against patient choice, since your only choices are privately-funded healthcare, or no healthcare at all. Universal healthcare adds a third choice.

The government, some insurance company, whoever, has no right telling a person they should kill themselves rather then being a drain on the system.

Right. But nobody is proposing that idea. Would you care to tell me who is suggesting such a plan?
