Free culture movement?? They either don't understand what those organizations fight for or they know and are completely twisting everything around.
It's actually Cory Doctorow and the Slashdot editors calling it the "free culture movement," not ASCAP who doesn't use this term in the letter. So, if you're bothered by the term "free culture movement," I suggest you take it up with the people who are championing that phrase - which happens to be supporters of the EFF, Creative Commons, etc.
I forgot about the "Superdrive!"
Clearly the DVD-burner is Apples innovation to!
How the hell do you make the logical leap from it being branded as "Superdrive" to it being a claim that Apple invented the DVD burner? Do you also think that a Toshiba Satellite laptop computer is actually an orbital space vehicle?
This is just buying into the hype. Apple came out with a new phone that happens to have the highest pixel density yet (325 ppi).
Actually, it's more like anti-buying into the hype. This whole "retina" thing would not be a big deal on slashdot if it weren't for a bunch of anal-retentive nerds taking the "Retina" moniker as some sort of scientific statement, and nitpicking about it. It's a fucking trademark! A name given to a product. What next, people complaining that the "Superdrive" doesn't actually have super powers? That a "$100 Grand" bar isn't actually worth $100,000?
The ironic thing is that it's the Apple haters and critics who are feeding the hype that they say they despise. They're just bringing even more attention to it.
His arrogance has pushed the price of Mac outside the reach of ordinary people.
Yes, apart from the fact that Macs are cheaper than they have ever been, by any measure (absolute dollar cost, adjusted for inflation, or relative to earnings).
Anyone who has used an Apple mouse (*any* Apple mouse) knows that ergonomics takes a back-seat to physical appearance.
Any Apple mouse? You obviously haven't used the "classic" Apple mice, which were very good and highly ergonomic. In fact, Apple made the first truly usable mice, they spend significant effort in engineering them. Prior to the Apple mouse, mice had two circular rollers instead of a a spherical ball.

Perhaps Apple (and others) need to shift emphasis back towards the actual calling features of their phones.
People still make phone calls?
Who wants a phone that drops calls if you hold it wrong ?
What's your basis for this accusation? The latest iPhone has just gotten out to consumers. Have you tested its call quality? Perhaps Apple has been paying attention to this area? That would help explain why a prototype was found in the wild.
If you can't find any decent articles to run, have you thought about just not running any articles until you do find some? It's not like you are forced to publish anything at regular intervals (or are you, by your corporate overlords?)
It wouldn't because the gas I saved on my 88 Bronco would have gotten me 5 more $2 downloads.
Err, what? I'm not getting the logic here. How does downloading for free use gas in your Bronco?
I prefer to pay for things that are produced by other people have value to me
Well, sure. But I was continuing the thread of your original argument, which was purely economic in nature, not ethical/moral.
I WILL not pay the same for something digital that coasts 98% less to manufacture then the hard copy version. Thats all its worth to me.
But it's not. The physical medium is the tiniest cost of entertainment media such as movies on DVD. The majority of the costs are in the production of the movie, not the production of the DVD. A digital download might cost 2% less to produce than a physical DVD, not 98% less.
Why are people so obsessed with the physical medium? Why does 50 cents worth of plastic make it worth so much more to you? You earlier argued that you prefer to pay for things to support the creator. But now you're blatantly contradicting this, saying that you prefer to pay for mass-produced plastic, not the creativity that goes into the work.
Indeed, he was lamenting to me a few weeks ago about not being able to find a blue-ray player that also plays his DIVX's.
That's quite an achievement. I don't think it's actually possible to buy a Blu-Ray or DVD player that doesn't play DivX files. Where the hell is he looking, the 1990s?
You would be stupid to download it illegally when you can get a brand new release for the price of a coffee.
Why? Wouldn't it be equally stupid to pay the $2-5, when you could download it for free, and spend the money on coffee instead? You could even drink the coffee while watching the movie.
and your lack of want should not effect my ability to get it.
I think the word you are looking for is "affect." Anyway, the availability of software is not up to random slashdot posters, it's up to the developers of the software. It's not like you have some right to whatever software you can think of. If Adobe decided not to release Flash for [Platform X] is it an outrage that they are affecting your ability to get it?
I don't understand fishing metaphors! Seriously. What is that supposed to mean?
I think it's when you realize you just slept with an underage girl (jailbait) and knife her to death so she can't tell anyone about it.
Didn't Apple have some anti-competitive rules that allowed only Objective-C to be used in programming for the iPhone?
No.

Talk about how most new things in computing come out of the F/OSS movement.
You're suggesting people should lie to support a cause? I don't think that's such a good idea. It might work, but I prefer truth and ethics.
The Marine Corps has it right, you have it wrong.
Here's a thought: perhaps there are valid points and drawbacks for both methods? Shocking, I know!

Maybe I'm just a better-bred human,
No, I'd say you're just a self-obsessed wanker.
His arrogance has pushed the price of Mac outside the reach of ordinary people.
Yes, apart from the fact that Macs are cheaper than they have ever been, by any measure (absolute dollar cost, adjusted for inflation, or relative to earnings).
And the real question is why they made the bottom strip out of metal since it's not an antenna.
Perhaps because it *is* an antenna? It doesn't have just one antenna, but multiple antennae circling the phone, for Wi-Fi, GSM and Bluetooth.

Welcome our new robot underlords.
There is with this at all.

You can relate anything to World of Warcraft.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

You can't copy people (yet).
Don't tell me what I can or can't do!
Actually, with hookers you often end up paying every time you pee.

As I understand it, AllOfMP3 was offering to send money back to the artists,
Sounds like BS to me. Pure PR from a shady business. But people will believe anything if it fits in with their world view.
I do want it,
Do you also want to get herpes?
and your lack of want should not effect my ability to get it.

what next ?
Well, a post that isn't nonsensical gibberish might be nice.
And the way to do it? remove shoutcast, make it a module, put the module outside the usa, and make it auto install.
Why bother? Why not simply stop using Shoutcast? (I'm assuming that somebody uses it in the first place, I've never heard of anybody doing so.)
