Were fully comfortable with the likelihood that our government is doing things that are illegal and unethical. Were even kind of proud when they can do these things in a secretive manner and produce the desired results.

We however would at least like to pretend that they cater to some code of ethics in the public face the put towards us.

Just keep lying to us. You've been doing it for so long that were comfortable with it. Don't try and legitimize it; it just makes you look lazy.

I disagree. Most of us go through phases of being quite evil and pathetic, and also of being selfless and kind. Most of us are sometimes wretched, sometimes wonderful, and mostly in-between. As a parent, I have a deeper love for my kids than I ever would have expected prior to being a parent. I know they will be sometimes evil; one of my jobs is to minimize that. But I think it would be a tragic, albeit a just one, for most persons to die in this manner. It's tragic for anyone to die in that manner, especially in a place whose core goals is making attendees aware of these animals and how their habitats are being encroached upon and destroyed and how few there are of them left in the world.

And I do agree, we all go through those phases in life where we become malicious individuals barely worth the air we breathe.

But to think that we have lost anything but an utter and complete retard in this idiot that got loaded and fired rocks at a Tiger is to give humanity WAY more credit than is deserved.

As Bill Hicks was prone to say; "Were missing a moron."

This is natures way....the real tragedy is that were rife with idiots as stupid as The SlingShot Victim and yet the Vehicle For Justice in the world is an endangered species.

If the Tiger were still alive the only thing I would throw him was a steak to thank him. ....and of course it would be waaaaay back past the barrier.

I mean, really. We had a table of morons set up who were boldly collecting money that they admitted they'd be sending to Hezbollah. They should all have been deported for violating their visas - half of them had already dropped this semester's classes anyways, like they do every semester. Somehow I'm finding humor in the notion that college kids are being lobbied for the funding of a known terrorist organization. Seriously, if you're going to be getting money out of anyone is it REALLY a wise market to go after folks that routinely live off of Ramen noodles for weeks at a time? I like to think that there's at least some sense of thrift involved when fund-raising and they'd be looking for a more appropriate target market. Perhaps getting an in at Starbucks and putting a rogue tip jar at the counter and plastering a graphic of a malnourished child would yield a more lucrative return for their efforts. I appreciate your outrage but I find the notion that the scenario you have laid forth is truly accurate, representative or effective for the goal you state they intend the funds to go for.

Either you learn to evolve and thrive or you die naked cold and alone.

They've resisted the changes because the money's so good. Even when it's still as bad as they claim it to be, there's still a lot of execs and Producers and underlings driving BMW's.

It's no longer the 70's and they can't sit in the back room snorting blow and not expect everything outside of their little party to have changed.

They should have backed iTunes more vigirously instead of having to be hauled into the 21st century like a 2-year old that doesn't want to go to bed. They should have backed a DRMless format. They should have coupled with a tech source to make the benefits of an offering where the DRM would be acceptable to the listener. The should have comprehended that the entertainment dollar is now split between them and video games and the internet and everything else.

  10. Re:Who wants a standard CD? on Media Research Exec Says Music Industry Is On Its Last Legs · · Score: 2, Interesting

In one sense I can agree, but in another I disagree.

You didn't get packaging; you got an "experience." The cover art, the posters, the rolling papers, they were all part of something physical that they were attempting to convey.

In great part that has changed from the physical to the digital. iTunes and other services have done well because the physical product just doesn't matter that much. If the content is solid in the digital realm then most consumers are perfectly happy with it.

Tool's "10,000 Days" was a great looking release interesting packaging. I remember it fondly the twenty seconds it took me to wrap it, rip it, and then toss it in a box with the other CD's. It's the only CD I've bought in the last few years since the iTunes Music Store came online and was half an impulse buy ("hey....I forgot this was coming out today") and it was priced less than what I would have paid on iTunes.

The "experience" has failed to change for the most part. It's almost like Hollywood Directors lamenting about not wanting to put together DVD Extras for release and being angered when they just release the movie without anything extra for it.

  11. Re:The shame.... on US Senators Take On The ESRB Over Manhunt 2 · · Score: 1

Primarily this is about the inability for the ESRB to effectively do their job to a level that is acceptable to the public. Having had some interactions with the ESRB and the manner in which they rate their games it isn't entirely surprising that there's some outrage; they've done a terrible job for quite a while now. The gov't HAS to get involved in something like this as the greater public is unlikely to be able to make change to an acceptable level within the organization in a meaningful span of time. Your tax dollars pay for significantly more detestable things than making sure a ratings system is not just in place, but that it works effectively.
