Also moronic, lame people like me called "end users" or "90% of customer profile" actually uses that "crap" such as news, mail notification, custom alerts.
That is a working thing so they won't break it. That place is the Web"s NUMBER ONE site.
IMHO they should donate their best products to him, a "powered by D-Link" small png along with the bill they paid.
So, that would be a "better ending" to a legit fight helping their amazingly bad image. I mean, DOSing a public, amateur server with your products and getting mentioned at Slashdot. Can be worse?
The thing with windows media is: They don't really care. There is windows monopoly out there and they don't feel the urge to support anything other than windows. It includes OS X too.
There is much better than Microsoft coded flip4mac 3rd party Quicktime Codec which is sponsored by Microsoft and became freeware.
It does not count as windows media player for OS X.
Read webmasters: If you want true multiplatform, go with Quicktime or Real (for DRM). Count wmedia for OS X as DEAD. Or use Macromedia(Adobe) Flash DRM.
(some have problem understanding it, especially Warner Bros.)
Just like I guessed, windows media. I hope it is WB pocketing money or getting sponsored by MS Wmedia division, not the guy responsible for it.
I hate the "tags" feature of Slashdot but now I agree, they are really stupid (look to tags).
They just guaranteed they won't be able to get into devices market (Linux) and OS X, the most rich, educated, paying for content userbase on the planet.
I don't hide behind tags: WB , you are really stupid and you deserve every kind of piracy on planet.
If they don't use Real Networks or Quicktime frameworks and use Windows Media, it will be naturally "anti non windows". Yes, includes OS X (Mac) since windows media for OS X is _DEAD_., there is excellently coded telestream, flip4mac 3rd party tool (qt codec set) but there won't be a new version of windows media player for OS X. Period.
I am afraid they will use windows media since that pathetic, dead start crap costing billions to Microsoft loves to get popularity like that. Being "only option" you know.
Dear MSFT media division: Invent something. Everyone out there are inventing something. They try hard to get chosen by customer/media company by their features. Not by inking "exclusive" "only format" deals with dotcoms and media companies.
After seeing coder of a integral part of OS X banned me from IRC and also jumped to my slashdot post saying "I know this guy, he is troll from Usenet", I lost all my hope.
Feel free to try though:)
Oh btw funnily enough, only thing creating problem on _my_ system is the part he coded. Evil!
This is somewhat horrible smoke of fanboyism and zealotry attached to every story having "Apple" name on it.
Don't even bother to try.
Worst can happen: Some company finds a horrible, horrible problem on OS X , as every security story attacked and companies getting names as "snake oil seller", they decide to keep it to themselves and silently report to Apple.
Apple does not care (Read: SANS/Secunia).
Information gets leaked to black hats.
Next day we can't watch TV or read Newspaper since Macintoshes are running in very key parts of media without protection as "nothing can touch them"
This is what I am afraid as a guy purchased a quad G5 from them recently. This kind of zealotry/fanboy stuff forcing me to post with "karma bonus" to keep the message around since a fanboy can get/. moderator points.
No problem, the thing is very touchy even for "Linux only" companies. They still waste their time/resources to at least Clam project (hopefully they donate) just because of windows.
I have read this today and was about to post to Mac usenet groups, decided to post/. instead.
It is a very interesting article about the real problems of anti virus companies (yes, no mac viruses mentioned) by Mr. Kaspersky himself. It also includes the problems antiviruses have including their products.
Are we getting old or nobody really remembers the scandalous "anti virus" built into MS DOS 6.22 which was treated as a virus itself by "real" anti-viruses?
It didn't make anyone go out of business, it even created a better business.
I am not speaking about the crap MCafee sells as antivirus. I am talking about "real antiviruses" of today which even runs a virtual processor in them to score heuristics, in cases like F Secure, neural networks based scanning.

It is good ending btw.
Sorry for replying again. I am a bit sleepless and for some reason I confused Real format/framework with Quicktime.
Again, if one huge project like this (WB movies) needs quicktime, I don't think Apple's QT division will think a second.
The multiplatform DRM is currently Real networks/Helix one.
Sorry for confusion.
I told IBM "mainframe", of course there are IBM supercomputers too. They just don't need to advertise them.
:)
I think IBM site must be among largest sites on planet. It may even be bigger than BBC. So, not even trying to find it
If they really wanted, Apple would do it as they try to make money from Quicktime.

See it is already possible.
The thing with windows media is: They don't really care. There is windows monopoly out there and they don't feel the urge to support anything other than windows. It includes OS X too.
For months: There is NO windows player for OS X.
There is much better than Microsoft coded flip4mac 3rd party Quicktime Codec which is sponsored by Microsoft and became freeware.

If you plan to use a server machine at home, don't even think a second and try FreeBSD.
If you are purely a desktop user, Linux will always win.
As an OS X user I wonder if the new SATA options etc are coming from Apple or there were Apple coders involved in creating new code.

If you have access to stats of IBM mainframe pages, you will see lots of end user guys checking around the "power" like me.
:)
I have even read Z series manuals as end user.
The thing is, everyone interested in "huge power" stuff.
Funny is, there are some amazing "doom" errors in Z series, I can't imagine guys face if he reads them on an up and running 10 million $ mainframe.
All ends up saying "call IBM service", I add "and shoot yourself from head"
Beside jokes, of course it keeps running even after such errors, that makes it a mainframe eh?
First and most important is: Only 5-6 guys/gals see a mainframe up and running in its dedicated/controlled room/area guarded by armed guys.
:)) They are different kind of people.
Funny is everyone seem to prefer OS X and Windows to access mainframe.
I know a mainframe coder which I have showed him how to defrag a windows disk
You need Cray, Hitachi or SGI (yes I know chap 11) , not IBM/etc mainframe.
Super computer is not a mainframe.
The arch they run (IBM) is open itself, I am not speaking about Apple PPC stuff (I run ppc apple), I speak about the Power architecture spec:
http://www.power.org/
OpenGL is now a "industry group"/board for long time.
e s/mp_browse
http://www.opengl.org/
Whatever (sad!) happens, nothing happens to OpenGL.
Look at members
http://opengl.org/about/arb/overview/
It is kind of similar to hardware, the PowerPC board. So when Apple gives up PowerPC, nothing happens to powerPC since
http://www.power.org/kshowcase/view/browse_profil
If Apple did not give up powerPC and it went chap. 11, Power Architecture would still continue.
After seeing coder of a integral part of OS X banned me from IRC and also jumped to my slashdot post saying "I know this guy, he is troll from Usenet", I lost all my hope.

I am sad too and I just hope no 16 year old around to say "who cares" since I won't care for my karma or anything to reply.
At least, respect for OpenGL folks!
Or if you have a EA game or something , look at the credits at the last page of manual. Always some SGI libs involved.
People, posting in hurry just in case as if any fanboy shouts "Who the hell is Apple music?" or "They are nothing"
http://www.riaa.com/gp/bestsellers/topartists.asp
See, that 168.5 million selling Beatles just in USA? They own their rights.
So they have a job.

http://www.kaspersky.com/eugenearticle
As a guy gave up running win32 for 3 years, I still check their site/blog as well as F-Secure one.
As a side note (hopefully not needed)
KASPERSKY DOES NOT PRODUCE MAC PRODUCTS. No FUD there.
Real businesses in real World does not send viruses to their customers or they get a very bad "first sight" image.
It is kind of funny that Mac people are forced to run antivirus because of windows but it is not funny as "stupid".
It is tragicomic in fact.
(watching 1000 port 135 hits/hour on my firewall running on OS X, 1000 bandwidth wastes)

If they think these ads are aggressive, they didn't see Novell ads.

I have no clue which company they work with but that _is_ aggressive marketing.
