    I only wonder 1 thing... Couldn't these ActiveX, JVM 1.1 geniuses who "invents" a thing which will result in more users filtering ads, code a small (64kb) bandwidth test BEFORE sending them 2mb?

    If all people, including you had installed the REAL Java of 2004, named JRE 1.4.x from Sun, nobody would have problems with real java at all...

    They know people still uses that outdated crap so they don't hesitate to code couple of new lines.

    Who are badly suffering from ms jvm issue? As usual, OSX, BSD, Linux, Solaris users.

    I have a powerbook duo 270c here, with 68040 and 24mb of ram... Believe, nobody can make that claim ;) but... Still usable, unlike PCs hehe

    I remember an Apple II emulator running on Amiga which performs 1.5 times better than same cpu running Apple.

    It was real hard to use it though, especially near impossible for warez people. Needed Apple disk drive and Apple rom chips.

    I now own an Apple G5 and using OS X, with 768mb ram... Guess what? Sometimes a question pops into my mind, what would happen if Amiga Inc. was well and alive (speaking about days they ship 1200,4000 etc) with THIS kind of cpu, hardware?

    I bet we would be still joking ;)

    IMHO its also the amazing coder scene... They made never updated Alice sound chip 8 channel via coding while its 4 channel.

    Realtime mix stuff you know...

    Also remember the Newtek (if I remember right) "abusing" the machines backmasking(?) to open hundreds of lines of ham screens and show 4096 colours at hi res (not ham) mode...

    There must be a way the OS "senses" the prebinding broken but it makes you mad sometimes. See, my system log, SlashDock is a RSS newsreader sitting at dock btw:

    I actually investigated the issue. Especially "changed" part, which as an windows ex, rings "virus" alarms on me but no... Some apps can't be prebinded and OS X keeps trying...

    Compression on a REAL filesystem. Like, compress text file folders ( /usr/doc ) on the fly.

    I remember Plus 95+DriveSpace 3, at fat 16 days, guess what? Even it worked fine. BTW, it has nothing to do with drivespace 2 or 1.

    I can guarantee that "if you punch it will die" was complete bullshit. How I know? I booted my Atari to DOS 2.5 just 2 months ago via punched diskette... ;)

    It dates back to 1987 or something. So.. 17 years old I guess without a single bad block. At last we have proof! lol ;)

    *nix only and Mac guys maybe not knowing it, Ghost is one of rare good codes coming out of Symantec and the primary purpose of it is DATA SAFETY lol... So, its like a huge joke.

    On Amiga 500, we could run Apple 1.5x faster than real Apple. I totally forgot the name of software, sorry.

    It needed real Apple roms, so I didn't suscess running it. Some other Amiga user may give clue imho.

    On a G5, 1600 Mhz I get real good framerates with Nvidia thing. I want to ask if it supports/or support 64bit stuff.

    Same here, I ended up buying ThinkFree office which is a Java suite (runs anywhere etc).

    I don't even mention ThinkFree runs faster than OpenOffice, the real problem was my native language based on latin... Damned native chars didn't appear at all...

    I remember Amiga had much better word processor than WordPerfect named "Prowrite". What happened to it?

    About waking Amiga users? Well I moved to PC, than Mac but I sure remember people here in Istanbul made entirely professional (which sold really well) Amiga magazine with a single Amiga 2000 than Amiga 3000... Better ask friends at www.amigart.com , its the roots of that famous site. Those were the days you could find "Assembly Course" in a computer magazine, not just "new product press releases"...

    So, some "good opensource guys" made a clone of battle.net, (which provides good anti piracy method via CD key auth.), removed that mechanism than Blizzard sued them?

    I have like 3 opensource stuff running here, on my OSX, I compiled them with tools comes with OS X.

    Why people install linux on x86? Thats the only alternative to closed source Windows.

    That has a good reason.

    In a place like Slashdot, by most Linux users I see my posts get "flamebait" over simple desktop usage claims.

    You really think ANY of Mac users will actually care about the linux crap mentioned here?

    Let me say, no sane mac user will install linux on their OSX, pros are out of question since some of them makes 10.000 dollars/HOUR.

    There is no reason to install that OS dominated by anti social and psychopatic geeks.

    If its plain 64bit, which we can all do at home via passing -fast option to gcc, it means nothing.

    The power of G series comes from Altivec engine which is simply a vector processor like Crays. If the code doesn't use those instructions, it will be just 64bit code, which is also proven to be slower sometimes.

    An example, G5 1600 Mac, with 768 ram, 1280*1024 Quake 3=300 fps. Why? Altivec instructions are used. If not? Well, it would be 40 fps or something.
