Left and right are outdated and weak philosophies who think they control the debate and struggle for power while it is now in reality controlled by large multi-national corporations and warlords.
Except for a few fringe types like libertarians and ralph nader, we do not even get to vote on congressmen and senators (and presidential candidates) who are not controlled by corporate interests. Even our state representatives often pass sweetheart deals for corporations that include them paying no taxes and being given people's property (shocking).
Put another way, you may see anti-right and anti-left news on some networks but you will never ever see anti-disney news. A candidate (liberal or conservative) who comes out against disney is going to be trashed inexplicably by that network.
And so it goes with a large number of corporations. You can be left or right- but you better be pro-corporate. The laws that are passed - liberal or conservative- have a pro-corporate bias.
The voting system is now very corporate based- unless you have a few hundred grand, you are going to be ignored.
The current immigration row is making this clear. Senators are being boo'd- a clear majority of people is pissed off and wants the illegal immigration stopped (left and right). Yet our representatives are basically ramming a "cheap labor" plan down our guts to serve their corporate masters.
You are not making a profit off of your use on CD and Ipod and are covered by "fair use".
If you took the song I sold you on CD for your personal use and started selling copies of it to people to put on their iPod, or you started performing the CD and collecting lots of money from people, then you are not using it correctly with regards to the rights I sold it to you.
--- Let's make a nasty example: You can buy a CD for $12 and have unlimited fair use on any device you personally own. Or you can buy one song for $1 and agree to play it only on iPod's since i sold it to you for a lower price. Or you can pay a rental fee of $.01 and get to play the song for one month on a playback device.
You decide the level you pay and the amount of rights you get. If you do not want to pay the price for full rights, then you shouldn't bitch about limits on cheaper versions. You had the choice and chose the cheaper license.
It can be. In india, admission to the top schools is based on a hard numerical rating.
Not top 10%.
I.e. if they have 735 or 813 or 5,234 students- the top 75 students (#1 to #75) as measured by the test get in to the school, have a good life while the rest are relegated to trade school or less prestigious institutions (and many commit suicide just like in japan).
If the 3 points is genuine, then it means it will be slightly easier for them to study for the test. Sure there are other factors- broken relationships, lack of sleep the night before, test anxiety, etc. But being smarter is a factor.
And clearly some people are smarter than other people. It was a shock to me in my senior college year when it became clear I was smarter than average- but not nearly as smart as the top 10% people in my harder classes. I wasn't even in the same league as them.
And likewise- while 1st born may be smarter on average- that does not say that some 2nd born or even 15th born won't be smarter than some 1st born.
If they put out the exact magazine as it originally appeared - but on CD. Then I see it as being on the right side of the line.
If they change the format in anyway then it's clearly new stuff.

now to flip flop.
OTH- the original sale was for say... 1.125 million copies of national geographic. If they are now selling another 7.2 million copies of the issues, it would seem some new compensation was due to the photographers.
OTOOH- The CD is being sold for something like $35 bucks for thousands of dollars worth of magazines at the original price. So the additional profits are tiny and the new compensation should be pretty darn small- and might even be swamped by the cost of calculating who is owed what.
In England 17 is legal. The legal age varies a lot. In some countries it is higher- in some countries it is lower.
The model's apparent age varies a lot too. How can you trust what looks like a 14 year old isn't really an under developed or made up 18 year old?
And it just needs to be enough to get them into court so they have to spend money defending themselves. Heck, in some cases you can arrest them and force them to post bail and can hold them for months if they can't post bail.
There is liberal, conservative, hard left, hard right and then there are the corporate issues that they all vote on as a block because they have been bought and paid with lobbiest money and they don't give a damn about what is good for the citizens any more.
You can't even find a good person to vote for any more-- the way the game is structured, unless you have 10 million of corporate bri.. donations, the voters never hear your name and worse, the media (leftist sure- but pro-corporate even more) will destroy any non-corporate backed candidates.
It's a good day for people that want to charge you over and over and over and over for the same content.
Ideally, they will eventually put you into a rental mode where you will pay a fee every time you play the content and then when the storage goes bad or they change the format (again), you'll have to pay for (not buy-- never buy & own content again) the content again.
As soon as the distribution monopolies are broken, we have the possibility of thousands of talented musician's work getting out. Right now RIAA essentially suppresses thousands of musicians to create an artificially small supply.
Too many performers-- equals too small of an audience per performer.

I lead a large casual but serious raiding guild called the "Brewmasters" (90 to 120) for about 27 months before choosing my successor (and current guild leader still after 3 years).
We had a nice real live party atmosphere and had get togethers in RL as well.
If I were to change one thing- I would be a big handsome barbarian avatar instead of a little gnome avatar.
My coolest memory is performing an ingame marriage and the raid that finally took down "Vox" after 7 attempts (several months of effort) back when Vox was still a difficult challenge.
The key challenges were 1) Logistical (correct balance, recruiting, seeing everyone had appropriate potions, maps, instructions) 2) Training (seeing everyone knew their role) 3) Motivation (you never have "wipes" in business. Greed is a primary motivator in mmorgs but ego/recognition is a close second) 4) Distinguishing between people who wanted to be a 'star' vs those that wanted to be a 'cog'. 5) Getting 60 people moving at the same time in the correct direction while dealing with the 2 or 3 who missed an instruction without upsetting them (and their friends-- and their friends friends). 6) Fairly distributing rewards 7) planning our short, medium, and long term strategic goals and communicating those to the members so that they could do the necessary solo work to be ready. 8) Delegate... delegate... delegate! 9) Dealing with the loss of a star performer (lost their job, spouse, stationed over seas (we had about 10% military personnel), and a couple serious illnesses. I never had to deal with a RL death. 10) Dealing with other guilds (contracts, negotiations, renegotiations "does the deal we have with them still make sense today") 11) Dealing with conflicts between members! (big one!)
Leading a large raiding guild is like running a business at 6x the intensity. As a low level manager over 7-12 now (varies by project), the work is very easy and slow paced compared to when I was running a guild.
I also got very good at detecting "users" since about 80% of people in EQ were users. Some nasty ones (about 20%) and the rest very nice people who just lost interest as soon as their needs were met (about 60%). The latter didn't consider themselves bad people- but they didn't meet their commitments. The worst reveled in screwing people over. In RL, I find the user ratio a lot lower-- more like 30% users and 70% okay. I think it is the anonymity and the age of the people involved.
The bridge is clearly out. The train has no hope of stopping.
Overpopulation will now inexorably take us over the edge.
We will have wars and death that exceed world wars one and two within the next fifty years.
The small conflicts all over the globe now are breaking the basic "rules of war" so that when these wars come, they will be unlimited in scope in terms of weaponry used and people targeted.

"overrated".
What a waste of a good mod point for a stupid joke.
I'm not even sure what the down-modder's point is since I frequently get enough "insightfuls" in a week to max out my carma.

They might say "I'd never do it for a million dollars" but faced with losing real money, the tune changes.

"race" condition vs "race" card.
Sigh...
Primary reason for backing up DVD's after illegal infringement is to avoid losing your ONLY copy to a tiny scratch or physical theft.
I lost 2 backup DVD's on my last vacation- completely shattered disks. No big- I was out only the time to make new backup copies.
So now we are playing the race card for software decisions?
Hmmph!
I don't believe it!
