Do you seriously think you can surf for free, unlimited bandwidth on some service out there in internet land? Sure, they may finance their services with advertising, and that's probably the main idea and intentions with their services to BEGIN WITH, but as with all such services, no one is ABOVE the LAW, and don't think for a minute you'll even be safe under such services.
Sure...your ISP won't see your actions But the Service you use (eg. Hidemysorryass.dot.com) WILL know your every move, they have to...why? Liability, that's why! No one can truly circumvent their own countrys laws, not even the best of them, the only reason you don't get caught, is because you ain't important enough, if you do the CRIME, you WILL eventually do the TIME.
It's all a giant game of who do you trust (to quote Jack Nicholson) - Who DO YOU TRUST? Some free internet service out there, are you freaking KIDDING me? They WILL COVERTHEIROWNASS.com when the feds come knocking on their doors, they're in it for the money, not to save your ass, that's for sure.
Networks like TOR (google it and learn) works, because it's a giant network of private individuals that lend their computers to forward encrypted chopped packets of information they have no chance of assembling, only that makes sense as you couldn't really assemble this unless you owned the entire network...or...figured out who where behind the originating address trough mistakes such as leaving your name on a forum, user name + previous IPs with that user name etc... Nevermind that, we're getting too technical, point remains though.
Not everyone understands computers, that doesn't mean they're incompetent, wikileaks, openleaks and other needs to help their submitters keep anonymous, and there are better ways to do this, follow my instructions below, and you'll be as safe as you CAN be in this world:
5) Make sure there are NO USB-memory sticks either.
6) Make it boot from the CD only, (enter the bios and set Boot Priority to CDROM)
7) Now you can surf relatively safely, but you're not done yet!
8) When surfing, do NOT surf into familiar places of yours, do NOT use your real name, do NOT search for your real name or even your internet alias, if it's known in combination with your name (if you surfed with it on your computer, google already knows your IP, so forget it!)
TAILS uses TOR, google it if you're truly curious. It can't keep you 100% anonymous but it's the safest "service" out there, and it's only relatively safe if YOUR SURFING HABITS ARE SAFE TOO.
then you can indeed detect a microwave oven, and pretty much anything that spews out parasitic signals from 1500-3000 Mhz.
*Technical explanation coming up* This is due to the cheap construction of those So Called WiFi detectors, they're not digital, they're in fact analog receivers that only detect any modulation on the band (very VERY wide-band / BroadBand reception)... it's just a glorified Crystal Radio with a small half-coil, 3-4 transistors to amplify anything...any signal picked up by the small 1 cm internal antenna, and 1 transistor to switch on a led (or 3-4 resistors, if it's sophisticated and have 3-4 leds...ha ha);)
There...now the Chinese can mass-produce them, I just literally gave you the schematics for it......oh wait!
Something totally OT, but relevant to the subject of paradise & freedom, I used to live in Denmark where there is/was some kind of degree of freedom, at least when it comes to free speech, then I moved to Sweden, and guess what - certain drawn porn can get you arrested and thrown in jail for 2 years over here in Sweden.
We just had a case-example on TV, a young MANGA interpreter that converts Japanese text to Swedish, just got arrested and fined for child porn as some of the Japanese manga series cartoon magazines were interpreted as CP over here, yay for Sweden.
In Denmark & Sweden you'd get busted as this has happened before, and they've set an example in order to get people to really secure their WiFi routers in their homes.
Say, you have an open network, the old excuse...but...It wasn't me - officer, simply won't hold up in court, you're liable for anything that goes trough your router, your cable, your network.
What's even worse, is that some politicians in Denmark are these days discussing to forbid anonymous surfing.
On Saturday, it's not even nighttime yet, judging from the Scoring 5 on Informative, I'd say the Slashdotters have started drinking WAY too early, sheesh...
...if you have a satellite dish (which neighborhood doesn't?) you can just place your WiFi Dongle right in the focus area, or even various other places in front of your dish, and you'll have more hotspots than you EVER dreamed of.
Deal Extreme is pretty darn cool:) I've been purchasing lots of stuff from them, IDE to CF-Card converter, 2.5" to 3.5" HDD, Usb to Serial, Usb Linux 3D soundcard for 2 dollars!, Strong lasers etc. fun stuff.
But you DO get what you pay for, but at least they don't cheat on purpose, they just purchase cheap stuff...flimsy or not, and re-sell them super cheap to the rest of the planet.
Example. the 1$ Micro-SD card reader broke apart on the first try, one of the IDE to CF converters had bad soldering (soldering shorting several pads on the PCB), Flimsy connection on the USB Linux 3D Soundcard...but it worked nicely, 200mw laser worked awesome, but the optics where nearly falling apart...etc...etc...etc...
I worked for a merchandise company, I was the graphic artist, and had to design numerous USB-memory sticks in all shapes, beer bottles, dolls, ice-cream...you name it, fun stuff to... but there's where the fun ended:
Most of the cheaper sticks we got from China was fakes all the way, but they where SMART fakes. Yes, they where re-programmed 1-8 gb sticks, sold as 16-32 gb sticks back then, but programmed in a way so you...the user...never would find out that they're fakes, how? you may ask......simple and smart - the more you load onto the stick, the slower it will operate, the nearer you come it's actual size limit, the slower it will add files, at first...most people don't suspect a thing, they just think...oh what a slow stick...bummer...but it works, and let's face it...the average user NEVER exceed 1-8 gb with their personal stuff, you think average joe runs around with a collection of DVDs on their sticks... NO! Take it from me...I've delivered THOUSANDS of these sticks in all varieties to all companies, big or small....we get VERY few returns despite this.
I know...because I just took a look at the boss of our company, he uses those sticks at work too...of course...we use what we sell, but he didn't discover a single thing, but I could hear him swear and curse the memory stick or the computers for being too slow......and it took me AGES to explain to my non technical boss that this was a programming trick inside the memory stick, he just couldn't understand how that was done, he said...but it's 32GB LOOK...and then he'd take the time to show me the properties of the drive etc...specs...etc...oh dear...all over again.
And he's an advanced user, what do you think the average joes out there figures out. Nothing!!! And the China factories gets away with it ALL THE TIME!

I recall one release of Mandriva that had lots of support requests on the forums for not working sound.
The problem: by default the volume control was turned down completely! Just turning up the volume solved it. Silly.
Whats even sillier - is to release an official distro with such a basic flaw, and call it user friendly. Many people this particular distro was aimed at - had NO clue how to use the alsamixer command from the terminal.

...it was in fact a useful distro, it was compatible with most computers on the planet, all kinds of exotic hardware, I absolutely loved it. But then it became Mandriva (aka Mandrivel...), economical support issues, fleeing contributors, and the support for obsolete hardware was coming apart until the distro became completely useless, first to fail was basic SoundCard support, even the soundblaster series...that worked fine under the Mandrake distro name...failed on several basic issues...such as...SOUND! -_-
One of the most wonderful things about Mandrake was that you could almost get 3D out-of-the-box, an Nvidia installer was just a click away *kind of like ubuntu today, but Mandrivel...? Things that worked before...broke, again because of the competent contributors fleeing (something about certain benevolent leaders...)
Ubuntu is going the same ways these days with UNITY, more splitting than unity if you ask me...everything is about tablets & touch screen, everyone wants to be modern...but what is modern? Have we forgotten all about functionality?
I moved out on the countryside, thinking that Sweden was one of the most developed & connected countries in the world, well...turns out it's something of a fad. Tried 3 different operators, Telenor, 3-Sweden and Comviq (essentially Tele2 on the cheap), Turns out that Telenor shares Cellphone-Relay point (antenna) with 3-Sweden, and Comviq has their own (again, owned by Tele2)...getting confusing yet?
The thing is, I tried all of these without any good results, oh...the signal was at FULL capacity...full power (all 4 bars lit), but the oh-so-known 404 Error turned up every 2nd web page or so, sometimes I had to wait 10 minutes for the 6mbit connection to load one single web page.
Then I got savy and tried a trick like "Kick-the-other-users-off-the-carrier"...how does that work, you ask? Simple...just disconnect to the network (3G!) and connect again. This logs you on at full speed, well...people found out about this and a storm of complaint came on, denied by all the telecompanies...of course.
And then I called support, and they finally called back and told me - twice (two different technicians calling each time) - that your cellphone carrier is OVERLOADED.
Then I asked them, well...will you expand this capacity since it's as you say...overloaded? The answer was NO. From BOTH of them. The town of 13.000 people is too small to add another 1 Mill SEK (Swedish currency) cellphone antenna relay carrier...so we won't do that. BUMMER.
Turns out they solved this by simply "sharing" the speed amongst the users, by limiting it. Not admitting this of course...but the results amongst our neighbors and me tells it's own story.
Needless to say, I switched to LandLine based internet, good ol'l ADSL (or VDSL...as it's called now) and the speed blazes off a steady 13-14 Mbit without as much as a hickup. Despite this, the door-to-door sellers, claim that we all should DITCH the old wired connection because the new wireless one is MUCH BETTER and MUCH CHEAPER...
Yeah...riiight...we've experienced that... O__O
Furthermore people are actually dumb enough to fall for it, and the masterplan from all the telecompanies is to DITCH the LANDLINES because...in their own words...are too expensive to maintain.
Goodbye reliable internet...People...please start protesting against this in YOUR neighborhood!
...it's not the printer that will tear your budget apart, it the consumables.
Imagine if someone could invent a 3D printer or InkJet printer that could work on recycled goods (powdered or not), now THAT would take care of that ever growing garbage pile problem of ours, but noooooo... it wouldn't bring any money on in...well...not enough billions anyway, besides - the car running on water was invented over 60 years ago, but you wouldn't depend on gazoline then...and money Money MOOOONEY!
A lesson in paranoia, it's all logic:
