It meant 246 which is a 2 ghz 1 MB cache Opteron.
Pricewatch is listing them at
$328 retail
The board is a TYAN THUNDER K8QS PRO SKT940 doing for about $1400
$1400+$348+$348+$348+$348= $2792
That leaves almost $1200 left for memory harddisks monitor case and possibly a video card.
$500 toward the video card
$200 for the monitor
$150 for a gig of good ram
$200 for a 300GB SATA drive
$100 for a case.
Still leaves you with $50 . Scratch the video card and you still have change left
I can build a quad Opteron machine for that and still have change. The gfx will suck.
4-way board = $1400
Opteron 346 = $315 each
That leves a good chunk of cahnge for the rest.
On the flip side , just because you have a certification doesn't mean you don't jack about real-world applications. The fact that your a teacher could make me say "People that teach can't do." Which I've heard many times.
We encircle the earth with 10^100 satelites all at the distance of one light year in a geosyncronous orbit.(we need to cover every direction) You make a detector that uses quantum entagled particles. When the particles in space change do to gamma bombardment the particles on Earth will instantly change. We will then know we have one year to get out of Dodge.
The fact is our species is on a timer. A catastropic event WILL occur. We are watching a race between this event and our species having a sustainable off-earth environment. it is reasonable to assume that we need to be on an inhabitable planet by then. The nearest star is four light years. The nearest possible inhabited planet is probably as far away as 100 light years. How long will it take the find and travelto a suitable planet? My guess would be 400 years on the low end.
Will we make it?
I was going to get Voom but the constant turmoil left me on the sideline. I'm not buying a $500 set-top box just to have the company shut down por have an obscene price hike. Voom's demise started in the board room.
They are horrible where I live. Oversold broadband to the point where I actually uncapped my modem. The upload changed to whatever I wanted but the download speed never changed!
100 ms ping to the first second hop. Run ethereal and watch the garbage packets fly about!
5%-12% packetloss for over a year. They actually made Verizon look good.
The cable tv is just crap too. the lower channels have so much attentuation the are in the constant state of static. My sisters digital cable goes out constantly.
They told me at the local office the wait for HDTV programming was 3 years away! I have to d/l programming from Usenet to get an HDTV quality tv show that I can already watch in substandard definition . So sad.
They suck.
But don't take my world for it , go browse DSL Reports for 6 years of horror stories.
You can do everything you want using Group Policy objects. Like another poster said , the problem is that it's hidden from the user and basically inaccessible from windows XP home.
The other problem is the way it is implemented.
Local Group Policy can not be applied to individual users or groups without resorting to cheap hacks. Even when you do the ACL trick you can only get Local Policies for 2 different users.
The functionality for multiple Group policies to apply to multiple users groups and computers is there, It is just restricted to using over an AD domain.
Obviously this was part of the plan to boost sales of Windows 2000.
The point is the only way to get restrictive granularity on users on any given Windows machine is to invest in a Windows server , setup Active Directory and force users to log on to the DC. However you still have the Local User policy problem which automagically applies when there is no Domain Policy to be forced.
Obviously the ability is there , it just needs to be implemented on all levels locally and over the wire.
They could proaby do it tomorrow with a patch.
I can't believe people still believe this.
C'mon people , a week after NASA failed to keep a monkey alive for more than 9 days in Earth orbit , Apollo 11 launched for the Moon. I know astronauts are brave but no one is that brave.
"Bonny, a pigtailed macaque, flew on Biosatellite 3, a mission which lasted from 29 June to 8 July, 1969. This was the first multi-day monkey flight - but came after longer human spaceflights were common. He died within a day of landing."
The reason respect is declining is becuase the other workers have finally figured out you are actually increasing there chances of becoming unemployed.
There are 2 causes for the heightened risk.
1. Efficiencies gained from computing technologies
become "employ replacement programs". A recent one I've seen was a kiosk that lets employees change there own personal info i.e. address , direct deposit etc.. . There goes that pencil pushers job.
2. A individuals skill obsolescence becomes real obvious when the IT infrastructure has a hiccup and they can't perform there job for 6 hours. Downtime makes the other workers look dependent on you to the point of being useless when there is a malfunction.
I don't think the pricing is good at all for voice pulse. It's basically $30 for 1000 minutes PLUS $7.99/month for a number PLUS the cost of your data connection(mostly likely @ $30/month.
My Verizon cell phone is 1000 minutes for $60 plus unlimited long distance at nite and during weekends . ( did i mention it was wireless?)
Doesn't sound like a cost saving to me.
This is the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. In case every forgot , their job is to kill people more efficiently. I seriously doubt any amount of money sunk into this will enable robots to kill more than humans on america's highways.
What does the military need a robo-car for anyway?

I'm preyty sure they used props.

I thought IBM had more patents than any other entity. What does it say when the wlfe complains the hen house is too wide open?

since when is there 15% annual inflation?
Most highschool graduates can not pass a GED. I doubt the average college freshman can either.

I agree , "organizational fit" is BS. It reeks of groupthink.
Universities aren't considered the "real world". Academia will settle for a higher rate of failure than the stockholders will.
Schrödinger's cat is dead. Someone need to call the ASPCA on him for illegal animal testing.

You missed , 4. just leave it alone and deal with it!
