    This so called "standard of living" is like beauty - in the eye of the beholder ( or rather some UN commission.)

    Frankly, I just recently read that an average income of an African American - the poorest social group in US is higher than an average income of middle class in Sweden.

    Because , my friend, with C++ I can say derive my Widget from an existing QT ListView widget and override say, drawing of a single cell, where I can use QT drawing primitives to draw a chart or whatever I want.
    This way QT widget handles 99% of the extensive logic required for handling a complicated widget like a multi-column list, while I can easily change only behavior I want.
    How do I do stuff like that with XML ?

    They simply decided that the existing law does not prohibit congress from extending copyright protection.
    It is up to the congress to make laws and create extensions, SC is just interprets current law.

    There is absolutely nothing to read in NYT beyond the usual leftist nonsense on the editorial page.
    Chicago Tribune is not as good as say WSJ but they are truly local paper with some national commentary as opposed to trying to be national paper for snobs and people who like to think they are "getting it".

    Oh come on.
    You cannot compare Rush radio show where he doesn't even hide the fact that he runs everything himself, with one of the leading " serious " newspapers in the country , can you ?

    Fox news is full of opposing views , the only difference between this channel and CNN is that the hosts are mostly conservative instead of being mostly liberal.
    Politically Incorrect was terminated not because
    the network" didn't like his views but because he said something that pissed off literally millions of people and these very people called in great numbers asking for this dude to be taken of the air.
    The real problem was the fact that he wasn't doing all that great as far as ratings were concerned anyway ..

    I don't want them to go.
    I think they are doing a great job.
    Since I know NYT reputation as far as their political agenda and considering their recent scandals where they were caught literally censoring opposing conservative view from being published on the editorial page, anything they print I will take with a grain of salt.

    As far as Democrats being "cowed" ?
    What you call "cowed" I call recognizing reality ; the fact is that most people do think that Bush is doing a great job.

    Nobody will show up at your local ISP and have them monitor your frequent porn site visits.
    This monitoring will happen only if you chose to visit US operated part of the net.
    Not all that different than monitoring people who visit US.
    On the larger note, US being superpower is constantly targeted by just about anyone who doesn't like the current state of affairs, something that is not applicable to your little state.

    You are confusing freedom with perks.
    What you are describing is a direct results of socialism where people were conditioned to expect handouts and all kinds of "guarantees" and consequently are unable to handle any other way of life.
    They are not fighting for freedom , they are fighting against being cut off from the huge welfare state.
    They are afraid of freedom for , in its core, that also means freedom to fail in life and that just cannot happen in a state like France, can it ?

    How many truly disabled people are in US ?
    With this level of social spending ,every one of them could be living like a millionaire.
    So where all that money ends up ?

    The money is being wasted on this incredibly vast system of social welfare, which in majority of cases ends up supporting people who are unwilling to make any sort of attempt at improving their lives.
    I don?t have a problem with my tax money going to people who are unable to support themselves.
    I want to support your brother, but I refuse to support a single mother with 7 children , each one of them fathered by a different man ( who btw most likely is one welfare as well.)

    No, they were unable to prove malicious intent. The fact that Clinton used IRS and FBI to his advantage is indisputable. Nobody disputes the fact that FBI files on some of his opponents ended up hands of political hacks, it is just it was impossible to prove malicious intent as opposed to simple fuck up.

    Basically the choice here is between people who create wealth ( pro-business groups - Republicans ) and people who want to benefit from the wealth created by the first group ( unions, trial lawyers, various "entitlement" groups etc - Democrats)
    I think the choice is clear.

    Yeah, plus widget set (another 2-3 MB) , plus nice network C++ wrapper ( another 0.5 MB) + nice XML wrapper (1 MB) + nice set of generic containers ( 0.5 MB).
    Please, obviously you never wrote a single line of code , for otherwise you would know that raw X11 is pretty much useless as afar as app programming goes.
    No to mention the fact that with X11 one usually ends up with multiple set of widget libs since which would be a complete nonsense on a device like the Zaurus.
