    Considering the fact that about 30% of US population does not pay any taxes at all and 90% of all taxes is paid by 10% of the population , it is hard to claim that this system penalizes "the average person"
    Of course, perhaps as compared to Europe where being rich is practically crime and carries a social stigma, it might seem that way.

    That's not the point.
    The point here is that the contemporary European culture is being kept on the life support only by the power of local governments.
    If left to the "market" forces , great majority of Europeans would be more than happy to go with the popular American imports.
    This clearly shows that , as far as popular culture is concerned, Europe lost the battle long time ago.

    Let me give you a hint - back then there were some people in western Europe and US who opposed confronting USSR on the basis that there are is no such thing as "good and bad guys" and viewing USSR as an evil empire was a basically very simplistic and intellectually lazy thing to do ?.
    Not to mention that any sort of military action against Soviet regime was basically a plot of these at power to ?to throw the nation in to a perpetual war.?

    Let me tell you a little secret - people like you were referred to by the local party operatives as so called "useful idiots" and were often featured in our local TV as a part of overall propaganda scheme directed against US and entire western system of values.
    Basically, the official line was very same thing like you just wrote here - that US is bend on destroying the world and therefore USSR and its allies are necessary to prevent this from happening.
    Of course , people new better than to view US/USSR as equally evil powers, a common sense you seem to be lacking.

    Remember fuckhead, US government is not obligated to work in the interest of humanity but in the interest of US.
    Simple as that..
    Sometimes, supporting one dictator is in our interest, sometimes it is not and we have to take him and his regime out.
    Anyway, as far as this sort of politics goes , US is a fucking angel compared to what other , similarly strong countries used to do in the past ( GB, Soviet Union etc ...)

    AS an American I can add another benefit - free software paid for German taxpayers.
    This will be a payback for years of US consumer subsidizing EU healthcare system ( basically drug companies make 80% of their profits in US where drug prices are not regulated as they are in Europe meaning that EU can maintain their low drug prices only because US folks are paying all the costs associated with the development of new drugs. )
