Before you go spend some money, take a look at some of the ham radio utilities provided for free (with the cost of interfacing hardware) on your favorite distribution.
Some other hardware considerations is the ability to export waveforms to csv, png, etc. I prefer Tektronix scopes. I would even consider a leasing program with a local vendor.
A function generator and programmable power supply (Agilent) with an IEEE GPIB port might be helpful in the future.
Your prof/teacher needs to come up with some different exams, sounds like she's rather lazy if she is worried about one test. You can go to most university libraries and pick up a binder full of old exams. You have to remember, you are the customer paying for her to be there. I'd consult with the deans office.
I guess the FAA has completely disregarded the APRS (Automatic Position Reporting System) by Bob Bruninga, WB4APR, which has been developed by amateur radio operators for EOC and Search and Rescue Operations. There has been a system in place for the military as well for decades.
I completely forgot,
How about Internet Exploder? Can we follow some RFC's there? Please? How about get rid of ActiveX? How about dumping the cache after you close the client or how about some cleanup functions that aren't buried in the operating system?
Boot times, how about keeping up with Apple? You could really corner the market (again) if you would use some logic with your products.
Can Microsoft come up with their own ideas? Tabbed browsing, oh lets put that into our **NEW and Improved*** web browser! The Mozilla Foundation won't care, Apple, They really don't care if we take their technology...
Another great job of a Microsoft overlooking the biggest issue of their operating systems. I wish they would work 18 months on the reason why their Email clients don't abide by RFC's or why their OS's can be taken over in under 12 minutes plugged into the internet.
I've been in a similar situation. It's all about risk assessment (time and money). Do you take the risk to leave your previous job, solid salary, and the paycheck that will be coming in two weeks? Or do you venture outside the bubble and try to make a prototype into a final product?
I would base my involvement on my financial ability to take risks.
Depending on what level of involvement you would be doing for this project, would indicate your salary. Partnership Agreements can be a legal mess, but it can work out to your advantage. If you were looking to gain money on the project, don't become an employee. Employees get paid a basic yearly salary without the promise of a raise. Consultants make more money, but never know when they next pay day will be. Being a partner or leaving with a patent of a certain technology, you can walk away with more then just added zeros.
They are 3D, but I know what you mean. No. The logic does not exist. A classic example is computer processors, why dont they have processors that are stackable? I have plenty of more examples if you'd like to hear them...
Sure anytime, check out ARRL.org for more info on test locations (Where and When you go to take your license exams). Feel free to give me a shout anytime.
I guess you guys and gals have totally lost contact with your amateur radio skills. Never heard of an autopatch? I would dare say in most rural and non rurual places there are phone lines attached to repeater networks, in Maine for example. I could be in Lincoln and carry a phone conversation all the way to the southern parts of Portland no problem. DTMF powered, 30 miles is for people who don't have a ham license. Ohms law + basic rf = ham license. 25 questions. Oh Did I mention free text messaging too?:D (APRS).
Cheers,

Get rid of Bob.
It only took Microsoft, what, 12 years to patch this?

I only changed one little line of code! It wasn't even important enough to test!

Flagstaff is still around, I just tried it from a small town in Maine.

Way to go, again.
Proposal, How about we just get rid of electrons and photons? They cause more headache then they are worth.
Wired has a great article on this, http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,70040-0.htm l

yeah their IT guy (in India) is gonna hear about this on Monday.
The must be running NT or Slowaris.
Just gotta warm up the OC-3072 or get Hitachi to cram more lambdas into a single fiber.
soon as cellular goes ad-hoc, you wont have to worry about towers, maybe antennas on buildings.
